Well if someone said to you "diesel car" what would be the first thing that popped into mind - I will bet on a LR or other 4X4!

Porscha up till now I've stayed completely silent with respect to your sometimes eccentric posts, and also your previously inflammatory posts regarding modern day BMWs (which incidentally 99.99% of our forum members drive). However this latest generalisation of modern diesel autos is just incomprehensibly blinkered and woefully uninformed.
You have gone and driven a Discovery diesel - a car (if it can even be called that) which has a setup designed with off-road use in mind as well as road driving. Even you must realise that the Discovery is a completely different proposition to a Volkswagen or BMW or suchlike. Your opinion that the Discovery is representative of the technology shows just how ill-informed you are. I might as well say that all MGBs are utter shite and fit only for scrap because the Triumph TR7 I tried last week had more holes than Edam and felt like it had square wheels. Do you think that's reprensentative of your 'Midgie'? You are entitled to your opinions, sure. But consider this - your opinions have been more incendiary than valued and it's no wonder there is so much frustration being vented at you. You really should think about this - you are coming across as being anything but an 'informed car enthusiast'

I hope you don't put money on that bet... the vast majority of diesel engines power the interminable mass of repmobiles and fleet cars that pound the UKs motorways. Think Golf TDi, Passat TDi, Mondeos, Mercedes chauffeur cars... Have you thought about how small a share of the overall car Market big diesel 4x4s account for??

Well I'm not having an arguement about this.
I did not mention diesel BMWs apart from saying I believe some are indeed very quick. Before this continues I will yet again say I do not have a problem with modern BMWs and have not in my eyes insulted them, I did say they are not my idea of prestige in a nut shell but then again neither are Mercedes or Audi all IMO of course. That is not to say BMW don't make some excellent cars. This is off topic is it not? E92 - Erm, yep you are actually right now I come to think about it, about most diesel cars being the repmobiles, perhaps just me who thinks diesel - 4X4??

Porscha - I think it may have been unwise to post this thread, even if the title had been given some forethought or not - I am unsure tbh?
It's all well and good making sweeping generalisations about modern diesels fitted with an auto box, but a Disco - please. Besides which they go perfectly well based on the functions to which they are designed for. As for BMW diesels and auto boxes............I've actually owned one and they are an excellent car - end of! |

Oh yes they are good for what they are designed for, I make no hesitation on that one, actually it wasn't horrendously bad.

The post was meant to be a little tongue in cheek and a little based on experience of this one diesel car, but as I don't drive a BMW E9X I forgot I'm not aloud to make posts like that.

I owned a Disco 3 TDV6 Auto for three years. Fantastic car for transporting the family in comfort. I thought it was reasonably refined and the auto box suited it perfectly.
