So I'm back from holiday and looking at the placement and routing for the OCC.

There are really 2x options, one being a very short routing, but sat above the turbo / DPF (not very clever!)

The other being by the header tank, which means way more piping and a bit of a faff to work out.

1, short route / potential fire hazard:

2, longer routing / less chance of fire and death:

I think option 2 is really the way to go. Would require some thought on routing as regardless of the can placement, hose is going to travel near either the DPF and over the back end, or round the front near the EGR (also hot).

I think I'll get some heat proofing for the hose to stop any extra heat buggering the marine hose.

Heat sleeve is available in orange or black normally, kinda pricey though.
Personally I'd be worried about position 1.
The Americans all seem to worry about oil pooling in the lines and how they have to run down hill but having the oil drain back into the engine is a good thing.... IMO

335d owners seem to cram them down by the turbos, but any failure with a hose or joiner will mean oil vapour misting over the turbo - that's going to be very bad!
I think I'll mount the CC by the header and carefully route my piping.

Just a thought on option. That's where the power steering reservoir sits on a 335d. I wonder if the brackets from a 335d could be used for a cleaner install.

I was going to mock one up in wood, transfer to aluminium and paint it satin black like the can.

It's the bloody piping that is causing me a headache.

Did you fit yours yet?

I found that bracket on eBay for £23 so I might just plump for one one those as it will have the relevant pick up points.

The car is going in the back end of next week for a heap of work so I've asked my mechanic to work it out.

That is a good idea! That should holster the OCC perfectly.
Do you have a link to the brackets? Looks like it needs to be a 30 / 35 to make sure the reservoir is on the correct side too.

I'm looking at doing this mod on my 530d and found this thread in my searching. I was wondering if any E90 diesel owners have installed a catch can, as I'm still a bit unsure of where all the hoses connect. It would be great to find a proper tutorial on how to do this on the N57 engine, but this seems to be a very elusive thing.

Look at the left hand side of the engine on the front corner and there should be a black plastic rubbed hose that comes off the engine and into the inlet. This is where the catch can is plumbed in.

The pipe coming from the inlet comes from the exit of the catch can. It's straight forward once you know where to plumb in although I never got around to fitting mine.
