Can anyone tell me what the addition to my door speaker is for.
The first picture is the speaker fitted to my car, the second is another door speaker from a freinds car without the addition.

Any ideas?

First photo = Stereo system front mid, with a high pass cap filter to make up for the missing tweeters.

Thanks, so if I wanted to add tweeters I should remove the filter and plug the tweeter into the covered socket?

Yes, if you add the OEM tweeter with the inline cap.
