FEELER: Vanguard setup for e90 335i
I am planning on getting a Vanguard cat-back with AR catless DPs. Anybody have this setup on an e90? Or with stock DPs? Will it smell? Or be really loud? Heard some sound clips on youtube which sound good but I can't tell if they have stock DPs or not.
Thanks!!!

Im running it on my e92 with catless downpipes for about 200 miles so far...Just it does smell but not enoughto bother me unless im standing right behind the car...The sound is amazing but everyone has there preference...Mine isnt even broken in yet and i dont think it is crazy loud until i go full throttle

i'm running Vanguard + ar design catless downpipes. Smell is nothing you should worry about unless you drive around with all four windows down. Loudness...it's loud @ WOT but when you are just cruising, it is very tolerable. Sounds really really good. I love it

thanks for the info...nice ride! do u think it's a good idea to get the vanguard installed first without the catless DPs? i was thinking it would give me a chance to test out the sound and see if i like it and if i want to go a little louder. it's an inner struggle between performance and trying to keep the car civil lol

I agree , its too loud for my taste with catless downpipes. Starting up the car in the midlle of the night sure does wake all the neighbors. I personally would like it a litlle less loud on cruising. Maybe it sounds better on a MT , but on a AT it can make some weird sounds during shifting.

Wow, its really that loud? I thought it would just be loud on WOT. If it wasnt a DD that would be awesome!

it makes like some crazy gurgling backfire sounds. my friends all love it but they all drive mazda speeds and subies evos, so they like that loud annoying crap. Just go AE. im going to add some vibrant resonators and see where that gets me. its going to be way to loud when its ten degrees out damn cat warmup when it revs to over 1000 rpm

Its mostly when the car isn't fully warmed up , and you let the car shift slowly by itself. Sounds very ricy then.
Once the car is properly warmed up , the sound is better , this probably due to the wastegates closing completely. When you push it , it sounds more like a WWII Spitfire plane.

anybody running catted DPs with their Vanguard? Maybe that's a better option for controlling sound?

You shouldn't be too concerned with the smell. I only catch a whiff of it from time to time with the windows down. And with it being cold and windy here the windows are always up.
I've noticed that Vanguard and cat less dps on a 6MT car are a bit quieter than on an AT equipped vehicle. |

It does that when you let the car naturally wind down the rpms.

I have the vanguard and aa downpipes. You def can smell the catless at the light . Once the car warms up it'd not that loud . However my car always set off the neighbor car alarm every morning
