Poor experience with RMP Motors - have they changed?
UPDATE - My issue has been resolved. See this post.
Leaving this post up so people can see that the issue was fixed. old post follows: ---------------------------------- I took my car to RMP Motors based on the good things I've read about them on this forum. However, I've had a few very odd experiences with them. I asked them to fix a few things on my car, but they basically make it clear that they don't want to. And I'm not talking about complex stuff (maybe that's the issue? They don't want to do simple repairs?). They're rude on the phone, and when I go there in person, the guy behind the desk just tries to hurry me out of the shop. I get the distinct impression that they don't want to work on my car! I don't want to be too specific, and I also don't want to sound like a complaining git - but I do want to be treated with respect as a customer, and I don't get that at all at this shop. Has anyone else had a similar experience with them? Have service levels dropped? Is there another good shop in the Toronto area that I should go to? From what I hear a lot of people have stopped going there because of exactly what you described.
Here is a list of GTA shops. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1070618 One that is missing from that list is BMWizard - Mat 311 Bowes Rd, Concord, ON L4K 1J1 unit #B12, (647) 831-1981 Last edited by Wolf 335; 12-01-2018 at 02:58 PM.. |

Havent tried RMP, but I heard they can be rude which is why I've never given them a shot. I've been going to Ivo at Columbus Automotive Services. Its in sauga, and I live in Scarborough.
Customer service is top notch and keeps getting better over the years. Ive been going to him for over 6 years.

I always have taken my bmws to Charlie at bimmersport and they provide professional service and great work/pricing. I tried RMP this spring for a wheel bearing since i was talking to them about my R8 and yes, the professionalism was not there on the phone or in person, but they did a fantastic job on the bearing for a good price. Depends on what you are looking for I guess.

Edit: Rocco at RMP is an amazing mechanic ..buuuut his customer service is lacking... When I first when there I had a similar experience, he was throwing tools and loosing his mind in the shop where I was afraid to leave my car there haha
But that's just him I now go to Matty BMWizard - Mat 311 Bowes Rd, Concord, ON L4K 1J1 unit #B12, (647) 831-1981 B Last edited by KiX1911; 12-02-2018 at 09:41 AM.. |

Rocco and his brother are good guys. But rocco can rub you the wrong way sometimes. The main problem is that rocco and his brother are runnni g the whole place which mean they have to fix cars. Answer the phone. Talk to customers. Etc etc etc. I ll probably go crazy if i had to do all that while working on the car.
Its not for everyone i guess. I usually talk to him on the messenger before going there. Explain my concenrs and what i want to do. It seems to work better as rocco takes more time to explain and talk to you. Also you need to build a level of trust with them. However i have been to other shops and by far rmp has the best prices. Their work is also pretty good. Also rocco is very knowledgeable with bmw's. Specially with modifications and modded cars. He understand the aftermarket side of the bmw I found other shops are not knowledgeable with modded cars and aftermarket parts. This is just my experience But i can see how its not for everyone . Maybe if rocco hired a person to stay in the front it would be better. But he is not short of cutomers so he mostly keeps customer loyalty out of his ability to fix cars and the prices. I talk to him mostly on messenger. Find it easier for me. |

I had gotten my spark plugs "changed" by them last winter. During the summer I had misfiring issues and went to another mechanic in Oakville. Turns out I still had the original spark plugs in my car and RMP did not change them after all. Spent a great deal on repairs just because of this issue.

RMP does superb work - but as mentioned above, Rocco isn't going to hold your hand through the process.
I've taken all three of my cars there over the years and now know them relatively well so I guess I'm used to it - and they're always willing to go the extra mille to make sure the car is perfect every time. As well, Rocco's knowledge is a great resource - he gives great advice but you have to catch him when he's got a moment. its a great shop and the work is top notch. I have an update - and it's a positive one.
Rocco called me up and spoke to me about my issues. He made it very clear that he didn't like that I had a bad experience at his shop. On my part, I told him that I didn't mean to bash his work - I am aware that Rocco is an artist with the E90 - however, I felt rushed and hurried, as if my concerns weren't important. He didn't like that I felt that way at all - he said that he's been in business for a long time and he doesn't like when customers don't get the highest quality of service. I could tell that he was being sincere. We had a 20 minute conversation and once we both realized that we're just two regular dudes who want to keep things simple, it was a nice friendly call. He offered to fix the issue that I had as soon as he could. He also said that he appreciated my feedback and would take it on board for the future. I like that he called and straightened things out. These things matter, and I'm confident that he was genuinely not happy about my experience and wanted to make things right for me. As a customer, that engenders a level of trust. I'm going to say that my issue has been solved, and now I'm confident that I will be able to go back to RMP and have my car running smoothly for many years to come! Also - I want to make it clear that there was no quid pro quo offered for writing this post. I am doing this because he was sincere and nice, and I'd like to return that favor by being sincere and nice myself. I'm not getting free service or any other favors, I'm paying full price just like anyone else. |

I respect Rocco for making that call, putting any pride aside and just wanting to provide good service. I've had work done by RMP before, no complaints on my end. Conversations were on the short side, simple and straight to the point.

Glad OP got sorted out. I agree Rocco is a star when it comes to these cars, but it's too bad others too have had issues on the customer service side of things, and many of them haven't had a positive resolution like you did.
In any case, as a mechanic, he's amazing No doubt. Glad your issue is resolved!

Fact is, when it happens once or twice, we can say we all human and make mistakes... but when it becomes recurring, a change is needed. I hope he sees that maybe he needs to invest in someone to manage the business and customer service, so he can focus on what he does best.

I own both a BMW and a Mini and was referred to Rocco through a close friend who has been a customer of RMP for years.
I have used an Indy shop in the east end as well as the dealer and I can say from experience Rocco is very knowledgeable I explained my cars symptoms over the phone and Rocco knew exactly what the issue was then he not only diagnosed the problem but he squeezed me in the following day. On arrival it's clear Rocco runs a clean shop and does very clean work he's made a new customer with me and I would recommend RMP to any BMW or Mini owner. |

Which shop in the east end?
Happy with my Indy in Markham, but always curious to know where other east options are.

Knowledge, quality work, timing and pricing. That's what I care about when it comes to mechanics.
I've been to RMP twice now and it's been a good experience. First took my e46, now e90. Couple of days ago in and out in less than 1 hour. Guy knows these cars inside out. Nothing worse than talking to a professional in any field and realizing they know less than you. I couldn't care less about fake smiles and cheesy small talk normally associated with "good" customer service. Just fix my car, do it right and don't charge me arm and a leg for it. Be simple and to the point. So, I'm happy so far with these guys and intend to continue going there. |
