why do you recommend thicker oil, when you reduced your consumption with the thinner 0w-40 ?.. did I miss something?
thicker oil is harder to get past the seal and burn, in my case -->thick: 0w-40 - thin: 5w-30

hows ur tailpipe's inside ? black, brown, grayish ?

Resurrecting the thread.

I'm having a burning smell issue as well. Not really seeing any smoke, but I know it's there. Comes through the vents when the fan is going, not noticeable when I'm moving. One thing that I noticed just today is that after I got home from work & parked, I noticed that the smell is prominent at the front of the engine bay. I sniffed around the rest of it, & didn't smell anything. But when I got to the front, near the OFH, the smell was strong. No leak from the OFH, & has a new gasket. Is there a specific location where the valve cover is notorious for cracking?

I have this same issue. Just changed both OFH and oil cooler gaskets. No smoke, can smell when running the fan, and I burn about half a quart every 400 miles or so(I leave a small puddle overnight) VCG is bone dry and I just changed the PCV with the RB as well as the hose. From the bottom everything is wet on the passenger side of the motor.

What's the best option when you have this issue and how much cost/frustration will it be? Not trying to spend over 1k and have something else break.

Might just trade her in

Hey Guys,

I am having a similar problem. I have taken it to two indy's the first said that both turbos are leaking and need replacing. The second said that they have never heard of the actual turbo's failing on these cars (even ones pushing 500+hp) and in their experience it is usually something else. They reported oil leaking from the front side of both turbos and oil soaked drain lines.
Their recommendation was to replace to aftermarket pcv valve, replace valve cover and install catch can.
I am wondering however could it just be damaged oil drain lines/gaskets?
I do not get any smoke whatsoever just burning oil smell. Car has 98,000 miles.
Also i did check the pcv check valve hose that goes into the intake and there was quite a bit of oil in it. Is that normal?

Thanks

You gonna have to follow the steps of a turbo diy in order to get to it.

Which for me was a waste, got the turbos off and they look brand new inside. the oil in my piping was from the PCV and the OCC some how, because the oil was just in the intake area before the throttle body. I REALLY NEED TO WORK ON MY DIAGNOSTIC SKILLS. so after everything found it to be my oil filter housing gasket, I replaced it and everything was good for about a month. Now I am leaking oil from the housing where the oil lines hook up at. I replaced the O-rings but still leaking, I read that a lot of people experience leaks when an other than OEM filter is used. I used a Mann filter and the included O-rings, going to try switching them out to see what happens, but to me it doesn't look like it is leaking from the filter cap, BUT I HAVE BEEN WRONG BEFORE,

What does OCC stand for?
