Hey guys

Looking to build my n55 soon I'm an e90 335i x drive
I got an idea for parts costs but can't seem to find costs on labor, more specifically the time it takes to remove the engine and take it apart. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place and someone can redirect me?
If anyone has insight on the time it takes a shop a respectable shop to
A. Remove engine
And
B. Take engine apart

P.S. don't talk me out of it and call me a jackass for wanting to build my engine, just for info pertaining to said questions.

I'd figure atleast $10,000-$15,000 for a proper engine build.

Haven't torn into a car motor yet but have a decent amount of experience rebuilding motocross engines. Stuff gets expensive fast, here's an example...

I currently have a 2007 Suzuki RM250 which is as simple as it gets; a 250cc single cylinder 2-stroke that makes around 50hp. It runs well but has a decent amount of hours on it and I'm looking at atleast $2,000-$3,000 in parts. Add in the complexity of the N55 and it gets EXPENSIVE. I'm not doing any major porting or setting it up for race gas. This is just bringing it back to OEM specs after 12 years.

Crankshaft: $600
Piston/top end gaskets : $200
Replate cylinder: $250
Cylinder Head: $100
Clutch: $230
Clutch Hub: $70
Clutch Basket: $230
Worn transmission gears: $500+

That's just over $2,000 and I'm sure there will be other stuff needed.

Now if this was a built 250F 4-stroke for national caliber racing, you could easily be looking at $15,000-$25,000 for a built engine with a 4 hour life.

The problem becomes when you start ripping this stuff apart, you find unplanned problems and things that have to be addressed/replaced. This is generally why engine builds don't cost XYZ, but are on a case-by-case basis.

Best advice I can give when it comes to building an engine, don't half ass it. Either it do it right or don't do it at all.

Where are you located will dictate price. But two builders in the US I've talked to are just under $10k for an average built long block (rods, pistons, bearings, mild port). Then add install labor price.

I actually am happy you would like to build on a N(55) its the strongest Most reliable engine in my opinion. I would say with all variables included 13-17k Parts and Labor

Yeah that's what I'm getting at for my parts list, I'm not to concerned about the parts, I just have to no idea what to expect to pay for labor on a BMW build

Not to concerned about parts price but labor, just have no clue what to expect for BMW built engine and stage 3 turbo. 2-3k from a respectable shop?

I would say yes to that amount. 3-5k if they look at you like a ordinary BMW owner...to most BMW means money sadly lol. But yes sir i would imagine 2-5K maxx

My $10k quote is parts and labor to build the engine. Install cost should have a set number of hours by the book, then multiply by the shops rate.

I guess people can now understand why I proactively swapped out the rod bearings in my ride. I will eventually do a rebuild. It will be more of a refresh than a go faster effort as I am way happy with my current power level.

Most shops will charge around $3k simply to remove and open the engine.
