TBH it's probably just best to do a 6mt swap, since you have to code it anyway. :P

Did anyone locate shops or parts websites to perform a rebuild to the 6l45? I've found a few sites that are able to sell the regular sonar zip kits etc. Not much info and not many shops want to actually touch the trans.

It does seem that the Valve body is the weak link of the whole unit. Plastic check balls, plastic switch plates etc.
Where are you located? I have a local shop that specalizes in GM auto trans. He rebuilt my 4L60 in my hummer. Upgraded the valves, pump, band and clutch pack. Shifts beautifully and better than new. $2,200. He's in Virginia. He really knows his shit. Races on the weekends.
Man that's far. I'm here in ATL. Though If my DIY work fails me I wouldn't mind shipping the car to someone who knows what their doing.

it's not quite that easy. the TCU is built into the transmission, and it's matched to the car (VIN, EWS, etc). You'd have to get the exact same transmission, and you'd need to swap your original TCU.

I have no idea how involved that is, but you definitely can't just swap in a used transmission on an automatic without doing a little extra work.
Is the trans module really tied to vins as does the dme?

Ya, the DCT is awesome but....

Major programming to get it to work on the N52. Probably better to take the engine in front of the DCT as well.

Shift points, pressures and such will all require a custom TCU tune. I also think the standard torque management method used on the N52 will not be sufficient to keep up with the 100 millisecond shifts.

Actually, I think MSV70 has built in support for DTC. No idea how you would calibrate it though.

And it's still missing a pedal..

Do you think the torque management can be done differently? There is only so much torque you can reduce by pulling ignition timing.

Even throttle blip/rev matching seems too slow with valvetronic only. Seemed to happen after the shift rather than during.

Did BWM ever install the DTC gearboxes on any car with valvetronic?

The N55 is valvetronic, and it came in the 2011+ 135is as the standard automatic gearbox. Also the S55 in the M2/M3/M4 is valvetronic.

Anyways, my original suggestion was to swap in the N55 in along with the DCT box...that way you can not worry about the programming, just flash it as a stock 135i or something.

IIRC every BMW engine since the N55 has had valvetronic.. so yes.

MS45 supported DCT as well, a few rare models came with it (M54).
