HELP - Fog light delete how to disable warning alert

Hi, I will be going with LTMW 1M bumper on my 2011 E92 LCI. Doing that, i will need to go without fog lights by tucking the harness away. That's the easy part, but how will I be able to disable the warning alert ( do the system still check for any fog light error in 2011? )

I believe the alert can be disabled thru coding, so can I bring it into a BMW dealer to get it done??

Or, I can simply tuck away the harness with the bulbs altogether? Would there be any downside? Also, by doing so, does it mean I can still turn on the fog light and it will light up somewhere under my hood, acting like an engine bay light?? Anyone done that??

The dealer would likely charge you at least an hour IF they can even do the required coding.

Some folks do that (plug in bulb and tuck). That is kinda sketchy to me though, You also need to be very careful not to accidentally turn them on or you could start a fire.

Thanks for the input, what if I leave the light bulbs on and unplug the fuse? By unplugging the fuse, I won't be able to switch on the fog light, right? Just not sure if that would still trigger the alert warning though.

Nope will not work. A blown fuse will indicate a failed bulb, the circuit is open when the bulb check runs.

Get someone to code it.
Buy the BMWhat app for Android or iPhone and the correct OBD dongle and core it yourself.

It's less than $100 to set yourself up for basic coding.

I bought the BMWhat app/dongle before, but it didn't work on my car, I couldn't get it connected, so i returned the dongle.

I guess that I can get the dongle again but they just changed into a different name now, is it a better or worse change? Still run/dev by the same team??

Works fine for me on my E90 and my brother's E82.

The app is better that before. They just did a full revamp.

A little update here - BMWhat can't disable FOG light warning alerts. And, even worse, BMW dealer shop can't do it either. Looks like, disabling FOG light warning is never an intend from BMW, so their OEM coding tool don't have such option. The only way to do it would be thru the 3rd party too, NCS Expert, etc.

Another option would be to secure the harnesses with the bulbs on. And I wonder, if it would be a good idea to heat wrap the bulbs , to reduce the risk of catching fire? Would that work??

You are wrong.
BMWhat (Carly) can disable the bulb check.
I know for a fact, I did it using the App.
I had a bulb go out. I was tired of the error while I waited for LED replacements and disabled the check. No error.
Now with LED, still no check, no flickering, no error.

I taped up my bulbs and zip tied the wiring to something solid in the area. No fogs for 2 years and no problems, no errors.

Tuck, zip tie. 10 cent 30 second option that works and is fully reverseable. Why would you do anything else?

Nope. I do not have the $520 option in my VO to delete. I had to find the specific codes to change in order to remove the bulb check.

U coded them off using NCS Expert Software? None of the shop here has it to code them off for me, can you believe that?

Well, one more imminent question, are the fog lights also being used as corner light? If so, how can I tuck the bulbs away? Help plz. I need to know the answer asap so I can tell my shop what to do next.

Yep. I am not sure why. I am thinking perhaps BMW switched to have fogs as default with a special VO code for cars without fogs (like the the 335is). In any case, I had to code the bulb checks off myself.

can anyone confirm whether 2011 e92 would use fog light as corner light, like X3 does?

I appreciate a definite answer on this. I don't have the car with me, so I can't test it out myself. I googled it but it came back with mixed results

You can code it to do that but in stock form it does not.

Coding would be my last resort because these cars are already way over engineered and complex enough - don't really want to play with its brain(s). :-(
