N54 Fueling question. About to upgrade turbos....
I’m about to do a PureStage 2 turbo upgrade on a FBO 335xi running BMS methanol injection with a JB4/MHD backend. With this setup will I need to upgrade my LPFP to push to mid 500’s with just 93 and methanol? I have no intention of running e85, but didn’t know if the stock fuel pump will be able to keep up with demands of the newer turbos running more power.
Thanks. |

Unknown to me how stock ones do with 93, but you can always log your lpfp psi and find out the hard way. Walboro 450's are like $100 and a couple hours to install so probably worth it to upgrade

Strictly due to age and for cheap insurance i'd put at least a bucketed 450 in it

Hard way? That’s the easy way! And it costs nothing! I mean what the hell, you’re going to have to log anyway to dial in your tune.

The stock LPFP will eventually get "tired" as they age and have higher mileage. It may be worth upgrading anyway even if it appears sufficient for now. Basically, you're on borrowed time.

If it "appears" sufficient, then it is sufficient. If it becomes insufficient at some later date, replace it then. If that date ever comes. There are plenty of 12 year old pumps that work just fine. |

Oh. I didn’t even notice that you said meth, lol. I really can’t help you with that then since I've never used meth, so you'll have to get a custom tune and log it with your tuner to find out if your fuel system is keeping up at the boost levels your choosing.
Those turbos should easily reach 500hp on straight 93, why even bother with meth? Meth add's another layer of risk and I’ve read many n54 posts over the years of people losing their engine over it from being improperly tuned, malfunctioning pump, or uneven meth-distribution, but if you truly intend on going meth, do a port injection meth kit that way you have an equal amount of meth spraying into every cylinder to prevent one cylinder from sucking in more meth than others causing possible detonation in other cylinders.

I'm running pure stage 2's with port injection 750 cc injectors along with a brand new hpfp also using a single bucket walbero 450 and my fuel pressure drops to 48-60 psi @ times during wot. My opinion a single walbero 450 isn't enough to to keep up with the fueling demand especially when you have the pi kicking in. Your lpfp will begin to struggle. I'm in process of upgrading to stage 3 lpfp very soon.forgot to mention I'm on a flex fuel
E40-e50 custom tune. |
