Converting gray headliner to black

Hey guys, long time.

I am about an hour away from having my headliner guy come over and redo the roof of my e90. I'm torn between just replacing the same old gray headliner or asking him to make it black. I realize that if I go ahead with the black, I will need to redo all six pillars and the frame around the sunroof, not to mention having to get new black handlebars, sun visors, and all the little plastic pieces that are present in gray on the roof.

Has anyone done this before? Is it a bitch? Should I spend the next few weeks chasing down all the little parts I will need to complete the job or should I just stick with the gray? Is there an easier way to get this done?

You guys are the best. I appreciate any input. Thank you <3

Sub'd. My 2008 c350 came with all black interior, this half grey is just stupid and I'm thinking of going all black too.

Your best bet is looking on m3 forum for a car being turned into track car. They sell all those pieces since they don't need them. But still might be hard to come by.

You can order the miscellanous pieces from tischer I guess.

So I decided to go ahead with the black (last second) and I'm very happy I did. Instantly felt like a different car. I'm aware I have a good amount of work to do before the swap is complete as all the little trim pieces are still stuck in their boring gray past. I've decided I'm going to order the more important pieces like the visors and the handles, and I'll dye the less obvious ones like the airbag buttons and sunroof handle. Here are some badly taken pics of the progress:

Some have said they like the contrast. I am not one of those voices. Any input?

Side note: the guy didn't have time to do the b-pillars last night, but promised he will return within the week.

Also as you can see, my driver and passenger visors are already weathered and need to be changed anyway. Timing, people!

looks good definitely don't like the contrast if you make the headliner black you have to make the rest black. looks good so far though

yeah, I don't like the mix 'n' match either. Looks a little ricey. Needs to be either all grey or all black. So stick with your original plan now that you've got the headliner covered.

Good job on going for it despite seeing it before, after you get the other parts installed it is going to turn out awesome. Many others will be doing the same thing soon, me included. How much was it to replace headliner

He works out of his van, he'll come to you in boca if you ask. I know because the appointment before me was in boca. He's been doing nothing but headliners for 22+ years. He is Vista's go-to guy (I work at Gunther VW of Coconut Creek, he is who we use as well.) His van is full of reels and reels of various headliners. He had an exact match for my oem gray fabric, as well as black and almost any other color you want on demand. His name is Ross, his company is called Above the Rest Headliners, his cell phone number is (954) 270-7148. He does quality work and he guarantees it.

Tell him Sami from Gunther with the silver BMW sent you.

This particular guy charged me $40 for the A-pillars, $45 for the C-pillars, $100 for the sunroof and $175 for the main headliner. He's yet to do my B-pillars.

i noticed you are in south florida - ive been looking for someone to do mine in FOREVER in black alcantara... did you fiind all those parts in black ? even the part that goes around the sun roof?

not to thread jack but i need some opinions,
how do you all think it would look everythign in black alcantara, but the sun visor in the regular OEM cloth black ? ive been told they are difficult to wrap and will cost more

can you take some more pics of his work ?

is he warranting his work ? bc ive seen people do them and few months later they start sagging which is why i havnt gotten it done yet - want someone very reputable

how long did it take to do ?

u should tell your boy hook it up - posting on this site is free advertising - im sure you'll find a # of people that want to get this done if the price is right

He did my headliner today as it was sagging and it looks phenomenal, pricing is a bit higher than posted but still was cheaper than the shops up here, but it looks good and the guy is a stand up guy.
