Interior Trim Peeling

Anyone experiencing this. I noticed today while washing the car that the driver side interior door trim panel, right where the little cup is, is peeling. Looks like crap and it seems to be spreading. Anyone seeing this, and are there any alternative resolutions to taking it in to the dealer???

If needed I will get a pic.

Its a known issue. Bring it to the dealer and they'll replace it for free. I had mine done, no questions asked.

Anything else beside going to the dealer, any home remedy? I would really like to avoid the dealer at any cost for several reasons, primarily Procede removal. And I dont have PNP, so its a mission.

Sure. Buy a new door panel and replace it yourself, or peel it off completely and pretend it was never coated.

Yeah, I bet that part is pretty cheap and easy to put in yourself.

Wrong SIB. That one's for E90 and E91; OP has an E92.

I had my passenger door handle peel and the fix was to replace the entire door panel. I have no idea why they didn't make the grab handle a separate piece.

Edit:

From the sib

I hope that's true for E92's, and mine was replaced with the updated part. The peeliness was just crazy.

Just because you are a Mod on here and have like over 10K post, does not mean you are safe from BMW cheapo products

Yeah unfortunately We mods are accustomed to getting the best tables at hot restaurants, dates with supermodels, tickets to the hottest shows...that sort of thing

Although, there oughta be a law, there oughta be...

I have had a alot of trim peeling. First it was the door handle, then the center piece that is under the arm rest, and lastly the trim pieces on each side of the roof where the attachments are for ski racks and so forth. I took the car into BMW and had everything fixed without questions. They were nice enough to give me a 328i vert for a whole week while the parts were being ordered so I did not have to drive back and forth waiting for the parts to get in. Actually I am still waiting and still have the loaner in my driveway.

Overall I am very pleased with how BMW is doing business these days. They are really backing their products and know that the company is only as good as its service department. With my Audi, the service department sucks, and they always try to find a way out of fixing faulty products. They just blame it on the costumer. I would have to say that besides trucks and SUV's the only cars I will be purchasing will be new BMW's.

I wonder if I bring it in, they will acknowledge the warranty claim, order the part, and just let me install it. What are the odds of that happening? I would really prefer not to leave my car with the dealer.

I am sure that they will want to install the part so they know that the problem is fixed, and then you cant bring it back in for the same problem. I would just let them do it. When I took mine in for the peeling problem the first time, they had the part ready and it only took one hour. But if they do not have the part, then just call the parts department and order it. Then the parts department will tell you when it will be in, and you can make a appt for that day therefore the dealership will not have the car for that long and you can wait. If you tell the parts department that you are ordering it and your warr will cover it, then they will order it and not make you pay for it up front. You only have to pay for the part if the service people said it was not under warr after the fact and after it is installed.

The only time I worry about the dealership messing up my car is when they finish working on it, and they send it over to be washed. I would just make sure that you tell them not to wash the car, therefore you will not get millions of swirl marks like all the other cars they wash. Also if you are waiting for the car, then you do not have to worry about the car sitting on the lot for a day and getting door dings or scratches from other people.

So in conclusion, just order the part, make a appt for the day the part is going to be in, and wait while they work on the car. Then if they mess anything up on the install you will not have to pay for it out of pocket too. Also do not let them wash it!

Hope this hepls!
Jared

Problem is I have the procede in the car, and I dont want to mess with that, in terms of removing it, also I dont want them to add any updates to the computer. I guess for now I will just leave it as is, the car is a lease and will be returned before the warranty expires so there's no issue then, as long as i can train myself to just over look it, which will be hard!!

Another issue is that they collect the bad parts that were replaced under warranty in case BMW wants to do any failure analysis. My SA said that they pile 'em all up in a store room, and once a month or so BMW sends a list of ones they want back and they junk the rest.

You *might* be able to negotiate a part trade (bring in the broken one, pick up a new one) but only if you're on really good terms with your dealership.
