[turb0mike] Vargas Stage II + GIAC

Thomas from GIAC is 100% on bored with the project and I am beyond stoked. I represent the <1% of people who will be beating the crap out of hybrid turbos on the track on a consistent basis and I am stoked that the leader in competitive race tuning has agreed to take on this project!

In terms of power, Thomas said he wanted to be "aggressive," a term not too synonymous GIAC, and extract as much as possible out of the car. He also, as shown in the email, said that the real problem they have been running into (especially with there soon-to-be-released 18psi map) is the fueling system. I hope to get into contact with Shiv (I know, hard to believe) and see if I can get that LPFP in my car when I go up to Hayward mid-November to install the vargas turbos. With that in mind, I should be looking for a safe, even, and exact 500whp with e85 + meth.

The timeline will proceed as follows:
1) Early November: Baseline dyno at GIAC to compare stage 2 race w/ new setup
2) Mid November: Cruise up to Hayward California for an in-house installation of the turbochargers using MY OWN ORIGINALs. Also try and get the flex fuel pump from Shiv
3) Late November: Drop the car off at GIAC in SoCal and have the beast tuned
4) Early December: Track day and extensive logging from both GIAC and Vargas

It will be interesting to see if my lap times improve at all and, if so, how much of a difference it will make! Super stoked and just want to let the super small group of track junkies that we will have more power soon!!!

STAY TUNED!!!

Can GIAC elaborate on what fueling issues they're having? (If not on e85) The OEM LPFP can more than fuel a set of TD04s. Even on a decent ethanol mix the stock fuel system is doing a good job fueling RBs. Admittedly the LPFP is the current road block but I haven't seen it being unable to cope with hybrid turbos.

Awesome, please post before and after dynos! The Vargas turbos look promising, you may want to wait for the results on thier stg 3 turbo upgrade!

Not fueling "issue," but rather the limiting factor is indeed the LPFP. An upgrade there would really help feed more fuel and you know the rest, hehe.

I think their stg 3 will be too much of an expense for me and not what I am looking for int terms of tracking capabilities. I can't imagine 550whp on streets of willow being that much fun, LOL.

Mike I think the best results in terms of heat generation and reliability is going to be using the slightly bigger turbos (maybe the stage 3? Don't know how big those are supposed to be yet) and then running lower boost. The Vishnu/FFTEC kit made 550rwhp at 18psi (no meth) on FBIS's car, so figure at 14-15psi it'd still make 480-500rwhp. Thats more than enough power to make the car a total monster on the track but at 14-15psi the motor is just purring along not even caring because that is so little stress.

Just some food for thought

I have thought about that as well. However, I do believe that once the fuel issues work themselves out (or with the help of a LPFP), 500whp on these turbos will be more than possible, especially if I am constantly running e85. Plus, for the money, I would be paying about 3 times as much for the vishnu upgrade. Plus, what 23 year old is going to fund a single turbo upgrade by himself?!?!?! I like this budget build and still have money for the track!!!

Yes Sir!
I'm not saying buy the vishnu kit, I'm saying maybe the stage 3 is a good idea after all. But I have no idea how much more the stage 3 will cost. That'd probably change the plan a lot.

haha. I totally hear ya. Hopefully they would give me a severe price cut if I rep them hard enough with my setup, LOL! A twin GT28 setup would be so dope.

Congrats, Mike! Looking forward to this build.

Instead of building up my N54 any more, I've been thinking of going another route and getting a track focused car - Lotus Exige? I'm a little obsessed b/c a friend let me drive their Exige today through the Malibu canyons. Tons of fun and so light!

Anyway, your car's dope, Mike. Pure track beast
