Key fob dead?

Just been to the shop, when I came out the car wouldn't unlock on the fob, it seems to lock fine but nothing when I press the unlock.

So I'm presuming the key fob is dead/dying? Sadly the car only came with one and it is very well worn, I suppose this costs a fortune to fix?

New genuine key from BMW isn't too bad. Paid about 175 for mine a year ago.

Most rip off places weren't charging much less and have to start soldering things to the CAS module and all sorts of other stuff to make keys.

BMW one works out the box

Thankfully just been in touch with the previous owner and he has managed to find the second key so is going to send it me.

Could the state of car battery charge interfere with the central locking? I've a feeling the battery is on the way out for a while and the car doesn't get used much.

Should the key operate the central locking when unlocking the door manually? because neither that or the internal door lock button on the dash unlock the rest of the car, I had to use the manual petrol cap unlock cord as well today.

Ahh, just found this, sounds like it could be a fuse and potentially an actuator.

Only issue now is I can't get the passenger door open to get to the fuse box easily, it doesn't unlock from the handle.

Sounds like the battery in the fob has gone, my spare did this a couple of weeks ago, i bought a new battery and shell and then swapped the gubbins over and soldered the new battery in, works perfect now and looks like a brand new key.

Total cost about 20 all from ebay

I don't think it is the battery, reading the post I quoted it seems the fuse is a common problem.

When I get bloody 5 minutes to myself to check it I will

If it is the battery what can be done as it is the none replaceable type fob? Would you mind linking me to what you bought mate?

Mine is also the none replaceable type...

Everything came from ebay.

Battery
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164081548015

Shell
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265016794485

Take the key out of your key.

Split the shell (carefully), then un-solder the old battery, solder the new battery and then clip the new shell together and insert you key. Job done.

Takes about 45m to an hour being very **very** careful to split the old shell.

Thanks, I'll keep those links.

I've managed to fix it but it's one of those where I'm not quite sure how. I found one of the 15A central locking fuses blown as expected, so I replaced it and still nothing.

Decided to check the battery in the boot for some reason and noticed the negative terminal quite loose so I tightened it up and then the central locking started working.

No idea. lol
