You have to pop out the adapter between the leveling motor and projector housing, it just snaps in, then slide it off of the motor. Then remove the motor from the back, remove the 4 screws holding the projector in and it barely fits out the back.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I can't make a new thread on this account so I figured I'd hijack this one.

I have a question for anyone that's opened up an e90 LCI headlight.

Has anyone else had problems with light shining through the top edge of the headlight? I opened mine up to fix a broken adjuster but when I put them back together it seems like the top shroud is sitting to low. Everything is screwed in and clipped together tight so I'm not sure where I went wrong.

Open the headlights 1) they are permanent sealed so it makes it much harder. 2) need a flat head, heat gun , and Dremel. 3) cut into the headlight with the Dremel and afterwards create enough gap to heat and pry open with the headlights. Took me about a few
Hours to open them up safely

Once you open the headlights swap out the lens for a clear, makes a big difference.

These aren't permasealed, lci you can make open Pre-LCI would be permasealed and you can't make open the permaseal. Heatflgun and bending the plastic just doesn't work at least for me. You have to cut them open. I just made a post about this.

My 09 335d was perma seal and I had to cut into it in order to open it. All of them are like that asides e92/e93 those are the only easy ones

Ok I will re clarify. If it has amber (unless euro style) it will most likely be permasealed. If it is a clear corner you should be able to bake open. I also cut mine open as heating up the plastic and bending it is going to cause more damage to the lenses. Especially mine (2006 330i) since the lenses are not replaceable.

All E90/E91 headlights are permasealed. E92/E93 are not.

The only save way to do it is heat up the black plastic, gently pry it up.
Do that all around the headlight first so you can see the end of the clear lens
Stick a screwdriver under the clear lens to separate the glue
Go all around the headlight separating the lens and it should be completely loose
do NOT force the lens free at all.
if you have Xenon headlights disconnect the angel eyes since they have a small tab holding them in place

Once open scrape off all the glue from the black housing
scrape off all the old glue from the lens
re-form the black housing with a heatgun and plyers

When your ready apply a thick bead of silicone adhesive to the housing and pop the lens back in.
Double check everywhere to make sure there's a 100% seal.
wait a day for it to dry and cross your fingers
sorry for reopening such an old post. I have a xenon headlight for my pre LCI E90 at home, and need to replace the lens. I don't like the idea of cutting the lens around the screws that hold the black surround and angel eyes to the lens itself. If I am careful enough, and unclick the angel eye CCFl from the back, is it possible to extract them with the lens itself, without breaking the light conducting material? Thank you a lot!
