I liked Gumball Rally better, but Cannonball was fun too.

Sneaking into a canonball run like Dustin and Dado did with Gumball 2002 - that's how I would like to participate

You guys should come do One Lap of America, which what the Cannonball has evolved into. I did it this year in my Camaro and had a blast. Plans for 2019 are already underway.

Andy Pilgrim and Jeff Nowicki did it in a bone stock M4 and won their class.

Just don't watch Cory's film you'll want the hours of your life back.

That is most definitely not what One Lap is.

I watched it too and didn't hate it. But... the book and movie don't quite match up. I'd enjoy talking to Roy sometime and hear his tales.

I'm surprised that someone hasn't done a high quality documentary on transcontinental records, that'd be a great series.

So what car would you use? Id like an F90, or an amg sedan a la Bolian.

Panamera Turismo 4S is the obvious choice imo.

Would be nice if someone did it with zero tech besides a GPS and a navigator/second driver. Now that, would be a Cannonball Run. Not to steal his thunder, and definitely hats off to the guys, but Alex Roy did it with some crazy tech mods inside the car.

I think the thought of jail time is highly motivating for the use of tech and or spotters... ed bolian didn't really use a lot of tech. they had a scanner but it didn't work right. they barely used CB. they did have valentine radar and anti-laser measures... but bolian pointed out that almost all of their avoidance of police was by just being really vigilant and having two extra people in the car.

The real decision is fuel cell or not. You'd have to run some numbers I don't know how much it helps. Just figure fuel stops take longer for bigger tank plus more weight. Then you've got the cost and safety.

If the next M3 comes like the 5 where you can go RWD then switch to AWD if needed as weather dictates that would be a pretty solid choice. An E63 wagon would also be good.

If you go lead car with support vehicle that would open up other more desirable combinations but for a lone wolf attempt I stand by the Porsche wagon.

fuel cell is required. I don't think you can get record times without it. I think roy put a lot of effort into figuring the optimum speed vs fuel consumption and at which point it become pointless to either go faster or carry more fuel. as far as I know Roy, Rawlings/Collins and Bolian all increased their fuel capacity. I want to say that all of them had 4-5 stops for gas.

I like all your car suggestions, id personally choose something fairly comfortable and a GT car/super saloon versus a sporty coupe.
