it works. the phone paired up without me having to redo it. i guess it remember from the last time i paired it. i am not sure if the bmw assist works since i do not have sound. it loaded up all the music i have on the ipod.

What your dealer said about getting the FSC for you? It should take them just minutes to get them (3 sets) thru their BMWTIS system after the request approval, burn them on a CD and then load them up into the CIC...

I am an istaller from Greece i read this post from day 1.
You are doing excellent job.
We have already try to install a CIC to a Z4 E89 that was removed from another car, but we have the Navigation problem.
We reprogram with the new FA but same thing.
I think we need new CIC from BMW that is blank. The used one is not responding to the FA programing.
(Also we install a TOP HIFI amp and is working, but that was expected because old car has one)


I also like to know if the bluetooth unit is included to the CIC unit or is an extra unit that the E90 already have it.
BMW ETK 9-2009version is not giving me an extra unit.

Also i like to know how you are changing FSC values to the CIC and also to the car.

Sorry if i am asking something that is already posted.
I have BMW WDS 12. (does anyone has a newer version that includes E89)

I am not a bmw technic. Just multimedia and sound installer.

1) So far that's the only way that a set of FSC could be generated to enable Navigation and Voice Activation. However, it is not sure yet that BMW will have to give you the FSC with a new CIC purchase with a VIN that originally did not have a CIC installed.

That's will be found out soon either by Longtran or by me at least once we get new CIC from the dealer.

2) No. Bluetooth is a separate module.

I will post some photos when i will get the new CIC from BMW.

A friend that works in BMW in diagnostic department take out a CIC from a E89 to replace it with a new.(Client ask for USB retrofit and they can't reprograme the CIC to accept it. ) (BMW programing software says: Replase CIC unit)

I will try the unit that they take out and we will also know the steps that he will do when he have the new CIC.

If we figure out how to program the old one to take the USB adaptor i will get the new one for free.

Any help will be excellent.

Boys i gave up... I got rid of my M3
I might jump ship to Audi and get an S5. They're new 3G Hard Drive based MMI is awesome and the B&O sound system is far superior then what anything Bmw has to offer...
I might also get a 2010 X6 but i'm leaning more towards Audi

The B&O system is pretty good but the MMI is still way behind BMW's iDrive.

The MMI is no where near as good as BMWs iDrive!!

You can't even search for artists alphabetically, you have to scroll through the lot, as someone who DJs and therefore adds around 100 artists a month through 12" this is a night mare!!

To get to your phone contacts you have to go into 4 sub menus!!

The B&O system is good, but no better than the L7 imho.

And then you have the drive, Audis just don't come close.


Oh, and this is my daily driver so I can say that!!


The A5 looks nice and.........well.......it looks nice.

Have you tried the new for 2010 Hard Drive based MMI ? 3rd Generation
Because i was very impressed. It's really completely different then the 09' One.
And i had a 09 750 for a few days. The new Idrive is vastly superior to the CCC but i wouldn't really say it's better then the 2010 MMI.
I agree though that the 09 and prior dvd based one wasn't anything special

Older MMI yes but the new 2010 is completely different.
I connected my iphone and was able to scroll through artists alphabetically.
As for the B&O i don't know but it sounded light years ahead of the top system from Bmw in my M3.
Drive well i agree Bmw wins hands down but the S5 is no slouch and it's a stunner. Oh and well Quattro is just the best. For Montreal winters that is.

The S5 is a pig cause of the gear ratios, only even consider the auto.

Yeah I have spent a lot of time with the new 3G MMI, had a loan car for a week with it, was really impressed at first, but started to irritate me by the end of the week, it was fine and I would spec. it, just a little annoying sometimes.

Just wait a little until either Longtran or myself swap and properly code the CIC into our cars at our dealers, then show it to your dealer.

Longtran will be done way before I can get a MY2010 CIC -cannot be ordered yet- as he already ordered a MY2009 CIC (56 available in the USA as of last week).

I would be up for doing it but I'd like to have done it myself. I know I can code the stuff to work as I have the tools to do it, but never having tinkered with it, it would be a learning experience.
