Well, today is a big day...

My wagon is officially gone...

No, not permanently... It was picked up today and taken off to where dreams are made of. In this case, she's heading up to Michigan for the glorious N54 and DCT swap!! Should be a whole new car when I see her next time! I've also got a few other ideas in my head... We'll see what comes next.

Being that I'm away from home right now, I wasn't able to do anything other than watch through my security system.

Haha yes, that is him! I'm stuck out here at sea until early June, so I told him he has plenty of time to complete the work. Hoping when I'm ready to come home I can fly right there and then drive back to FL, unless the car is sent back to FL before then... But yes, definitely want to meet up! The wagon contingent is strong in Michigan!!!

Awesome JupiterBMW !! Glad you posted up a build thread... I have been waiting to even *see* your car since you bought it so long ago! So... are you going full-meal deal with the exterior MSport bits after the N54 swap?? Still very chapped that that engine option was never offered here to begin with. When you could get it in the X1?? Ridiculous...

Haha yeah man, it took me forever to get this going. To be honest, when I was hunting for this car, I absolutely didn't want a project car, it was supposed to be an economical run around town car only. At least, that's what I told my wife...

As for the car, yes, full M-Sport bodywork is the final "big" step in the car. The interior was supposed to come AFTER the drivetrain, but the right parts just appeared too soon, I had to jump on them. After interior, drivetrain, and M-sport bodywork, then its just small mods and maintenance forever.

Hope that new X3 is treating you well buddy. Keep in touch!

Well, apparently nothing is ever too easy!

After Jeremi picked up the car, it started to run really poorly. Of course, Jeremi's a wizard and was able to diagnose and found that the vanos bolts had backed out. A quick repair and she was on the move again... The last update he gave me was that the car is awaiting transport.

Which are the bolts that backed out? That motor looks really clean seems like it was well taken care of.

Haha, yeah, I guess I didn't... That was just part of the full interior swap. I did the removal/install myself and then took it to a local auto upholsterer for recovering... Down here in South Florida headliners sag ALL the time due to the heat/humidity, so its very common and most shops are REALLY good at recovering them!

The car has 128K miles. It was dealer maintained until I bought it at 118K. That being said, it seems like the dealer missed a few simple things. For instance, they did the oil pan gasket, but then on reassembly, put the oil level sensor back in without the o-ring...

As for this issue, the engine light kicked on while he was driving it back to his place after he picked it up. Being that he's basically the E91 and N52/N54 wizard, he knew the symptoms and confirmed his hunch after pulling codes. A little spare time allowed him to pop the valve cover and confirm the issue...

The post had me wondering too!

Turns out these bolts are recalled for certain 2010-2011 N52 3 series. BMW will replace the four bolts on each VANOS unit for free.

Could you check on your invoice or with the shop how much headliner material is needed for E91?
I am estimating 3 yards, but then there are the two panels on the panoramic roof and I don't think those can be covered by just cutting an opening in the 3 yards covering the headliner as that would not leave enough to wrap around the edges of the opening and also fully cover the panels. Am I correct?
Is it then 3 yards for the headliner PLUS another maybe 2 yards for the roof shade panels?

Thanks!

To be honest, I'm away from home right now so I have no way of checking. I don't believe the invoice I have states how many yards. I know the material was $130. I prepaid that so he could order it. You can always give a call if you'd like to talk to the guy and ask. The shop name is Jupiter Auto Upholstery.
