New owner of a used E93

Just picked up a 2009 E93 335i M-sport. Le Mans Blue. Drove down to Wilmington NC and picked it up yesterday. Drove it back and it ran like a champ. The internet had me somewhat fearful that it was going to disintegrate around me or explode. Time will tell of my wisdom of the purchase but initial impressions are great!!

Congrats! I just bought my E93 back in August. Pointers from another new (to me) E93 owner - get some gummi pflege to keep those origami top seals in good shape, do some digging on here and find out how to keep the rain channels clean (you don't want water coming in your trunk, battery on one side and amp on the other), if your car is coded or you plan to code it to lower or raise the top while in motion, make sure that the road surface is relatively smooth. You don't want that top getting shifted while opening/closing.

Post pics when you have time, we'd all like to see it!

Thanks for the advice! Good news is itís never been outside of a garage...much It was babied by the previous owner and barely saw rain. 62k miles. PPi Came back perfect. Needs new air filter is about all. Thatís my excuse to put dci

I know the Ppi isnít the end all be all but the waste gates were tight no signs of hpfp issues so my only worry right now is the water pump.

Also looking at plugs at this milage as well.

Iíll get some pics up soon 😁

Garage List
Welcome!

Welcome the family! I have very similar miles to yours and have had some maintenance things come up. Addressing these things now will ensure you won't be frustrated and stranded on the side of the road. Hopefully the previous owner has done some of these.

Watch out for the usual water pump + thermostat, oil cooler housing gasket, valve cover crack, HPFP, faulty injectors, coil packs, belt tensioner and pulleys, walnut blasting.

If you are handy, these are fun DIY's to knock out on the weekends. If not, I would recommend you find a great indy to knock these out for you.

Thanks! I like to diy when I can but have an indy I trust as well and read about another one in the NoVa area thats recommended on this forum. The water pump is the only worry I have at the moment as they can kinda go without real warning I guess. It shows no symptoms atm so I'm just gonna go with it. No oil leaks were reported at this time.

This car is a third car/weekend car that is replacing my S2000. We decided to get an automatic with 4(ish) seats that is more all weather friendly. The wife already approves though she misses the exclusivity of the S.

Current plans are:
Spark plugs
DCI or just drop in filter replacement
Catch can
PCV valve upgrade
Learn and enjoy the car for a bit

How does your suspension feel? I bought a 2012 E92 xdrive with 39k miles on it a few months ago. I did coilovers last weekend, and was surprised to find out I also need to replace a control arm, sway bar end links and that my struts were pretty weak (which the coilovers replaced anyway). The ride does feel bouncy to the point that it's annoying, but I had assumed it was just crappy xdrive suspension.

Thats unfortunate. This one feels great. I drove it the 400 miles back in the rain and it was smooth as butter to me. Please remember though that I'm coming from an S2000 that had 148k miles and the ride was pretty stiff on that baby!
