6-spd shift knob weight comparison

Thought I'd post this as an FYI. These are for my e92.

Along with the OEM knob, I have a ZHP knob as well as the perforated "performance" knob that also came with its own boot. Photos attached for clarification on which ones I'm referencing.

I weighed the OEM knob, ZHP knob, the OEM boot by itself, and the perf knob+boot combo (they came attached). For simplicity, I assumed that the perf knob's boot weighs the same as the OEM boot, thus simply subtracting it from the total weight of the knob/boot combo to get the knob weight.

OEM = 82 g
ZHP = 184 g
Perf knob+boot = 247 g
Using the OEM boot weight of 67 g, the perf knob = 181 g

So the ZHP and perf knobs are essentially identical, and more than 2x that of OEM.

As a side note, I've been using the perf knob/boot as I enjoy the feel of the perforated leather and the shape of the knob (and the perf leather matches my perf leather steering wheel). I found that the ZHP felt better if I gripped it from the top, but as I prefer to use more of a side grip, I like the shape of the perf one better. The OEM was a little light.

This is great work. Thanks for sharing.
Now I’m curious to try the perf knob!

Good information, I immediately bought the ZHP version when I bought my E92 and recently bought an Alcantara boot. Coming from an E46 325Cic, I have a soft spot for the ZHP and love the version.
