Reckless driving ticket help
Hey, well i finally got my first ticket after four years, but here’s the story
i was driving home on RT 7 near Tyson's at 3pm, as i was driving in a 45 MPH i was going 60-65mph ish (yes i know i was speeding etc etc), As i was driving there was a cop stopped at a red light making a left turn onto RT 7. I passed by the cop and he saw that i was speeding so he turns his lights on and gets onto the main road and follows me, as soon as i passed him i slowed down to the speed limit. He was behind me for less than 30 sec before he pulled me over . When the officer came up to my window he was polite and so was i, he asked me what the speed limit back there was and how fast i was going, i told the officer “it was a 45mph zone and i was going above that but i wasn't sure the exact speed”, he asked me the same question 2 other times and i responded with the same thing, i wasn't exactly sure but i know i was going above 45mph. But when he asked me the forth time he told me “ do you want to go to jail, tell me right now how fast you were going”. At that moment i panicked and i stupidly said, maybe 65mph, he then took my license and came back with a reckless driving ticket, oh and on top of that an illegal tint ticket. So my question is with my Clean record how screwed am i? Im no doubt getting a lawyer and hopefully it will get reduced to a speeding ticket. In court what evidence will he have of me speeding, he didnt get me on radar, just knew my speed by my forced confession and does anyone have a recommendation on a very good lawyer

Take a defensive drive course, get a copy of your driving record and a lawyer. If you have any paperwork to show what type of guy you are, like an eval, or know any cops personally reallllly well, you may ask them to write a character witness letter. |

Oh well what's said is said. Go to court and say you're guilty with explanation. With a clean driving record, judge will probably give you probation before judgement, meaning pay a fine, reduce the points, and one year probation.

I have gotten 4 speeding tickets and I know this much, if the cop did not get a chance to use his radar or w/e, your fine. I got a ticket once, a cop was 'pacing' me and just pulled me over, I found out after losing points and paying the ticket, I should have went to court and asked the officer in front of the judge if she actually had a read out. Just because you were being way to honest lol....shouldn't have received a reckless. Oh and Also be suppper polite, the second the judge feels your being an a** game over. Ask around im pretty sure it'll get tossed out.

You could say you got nervous when he threatened you wtih jail time and panicked
But you had no clue how fast you were going His only proof is what he made you say That was a blatant threat, and I'm pretty sure cops aren't allowed to do that

Yeahhhh, I got a reckless driving ticket this weekend as well... Driving down to Atlanta for Petit LeMans and got pulled over at 2am on Friday morning in the middle of bum f*ck nowhere. Cop radared me doing 85 in a 70. Not too bad but I guess anything over 80 is reckless. Sucks because the damn town is 2.5 hrs away from home.
Like this guy said, any suggestions for a lawyer in VA to deal with these situations? I just got a PBJ in May for a ticket I received back in January |

That's unfortunate. Next time say something like 10 mph over the speed limit. get a lawyer.
§ 46.2-862. Exceeding speed limit. A person shall be guilty of reckless driving who drives a motor vehicle on the highways in the Commonwealth (i) at a speed of twenty miles per hour or more in excess of the applicable maximum speed limit or (ii) in excess of eighty miles per hour regardless of the applicable maximum speed limit. |
