I love my 2009! I purchased it last summer haven't looked back! It's the first year of the facelift I believe and looks really good!

I bought mine cash and think it's the way to go because a lot of them have depreciated so much.

The only problem I've had has been my ac going out from two different leaks, that was expensive! But other than that nothing!

2009 is when they upgraded the iDrive system to from CCC to CIC for the e9x. Which is a great great improvement! Looking at the old CCC interface makes me cringe. =X

Also for the sedans, 2009 is when they did the facelift aka LCI. So you get new front end along with the updated tail lights. Much much more elegant and refined look.

I think the 2009 are more reliable, since BMW makes revisions to the faulty parts. Such as a fuel pump and injectors.
But they are still plagued with the all the other n54 issues. Water pump, hpfp, injectors, coils and plugs. Everything is bound to fail eventually.

I have a 2009 also and right now it's at 92k miles. And the only thing that left me stranded was the water pump. I replaced the coils and plugs as preventive maintenance along with a bunch of other fluid flushes. And so far it has been a reliable car!

By the way my car for sale, check out my for sale post!

The 2009 has the newer MSD81, so no more MOSFET issues. Aside from that, you still have HPFP, faulty injectors, electric waterpump failure, etc. My 2009 experienced 3 HPFP failures within the first 20k miles. It also went through 2 DMTLs in the same time period. Watch the injectors closely since you probably have either index 7 or index 9, both are sketchy. Keep in mind that leaking injectors don't throw codes. The HPFP thing is pretty well sorted at this point, guys are getting 100k+ out of the newer ones. Watch out for camshaft bearing ledges since all n52 and n54 engines are affected regardless of production date.
I love BMW and I think the n54 is great, just be aware of what you are getting into.
DEFINITELY pay cash, you never want to finance an older BMW, especially one like the 335i. The N54 can get VERY expensive if you don't DIY, you need title in hand in case you get in too deep.

Okay thank you for all that information! I actually think I will finance it though, my maximum amount of money I am willing to pay would be $15k, with a down payment of $5k and would probably get 1-3k if I trade in my 06 330xi. Which my payment would be below $200 which is what I want. Insurance would be below $100, so I would be paying between $250-300 for the car + insurance.

If you sell your car outright rather than trading it in, you could get an extra couple grand for it.

That's nuts.. 1k for an 06 330xi? You can private sell for way more. Also.. $15k is a little steep if its non-Msport..
