Can you run a Pure Turbo on stock tune?? IK dumb question
I know this is a dumb question but can I run a stock tune on a stage 1 pure turbo? Asking this because I live in commifornia and need to pass smog every 2 years. I know I can get a "fake" smog for 300 but why spend the extra money you know.

Why not just tune it and switch the tune back to stock when you need to smog. That's what most people do.

No issues running the stock tune on the turbo. I ran the stock tune on a PS2 for a couple of months.

Putting some e85 in your tank also gets rid of some of the emissions. Get a stage 2 lpfp and a tune for e50 and check the emissions. Or say fuck it and go full e85 with a secondary fuel system (hpfp booster or port injection)

I ran MHD stage 2 on my PS2 a few times without any emissions issues when I was diagnosing issues. I would get a fuel pump controller code because the Fuel It LPFP wasn't part of the stage 2 tune every now and then.

As some of these upgrades can cost serious coin, we sometimes can't buy everything at once. Isn't the PS2 like over 4 grand, everything considered? As that is generally the case we sometimes can only do one or two things at one time. After all, there other obligations than our rides. I drove mine with the PS2 and the Dinan stage 3 for a better part of a year with no issues. I kept hearing that the tune is not optimal. I felt like so what, as long as it didnt blow anything up until I could make it so.

PS2 is $2500, install kit is $250. I guess maybe $1250 for an expensive shop to install?
PS1 is basically a stock turbo with better top end. You can run completely stock everything and be fine. |

Not exactly true...you have a rather unique ability to assimilate all the information out "there" just prior to your needing to apply all this knowledge gained to fix your ride.
The true gift you bring to this or any other BMW forum is your willingness to share practical solutions you put into practice without making the OP feel like a dope. You are a class act my friend. mike |
