Smile My E90 SE to M Sport conversion...

Hi All,

I finally picked up a E90 320d SE a couple of weeks ago on a 55 plate and silver in colour.
My idea was always to buy an SE and give it a fully loaded M Sport conversion… so that exactly what I have done!
Its been a busy couple of weeks but this is what I have done to it so far (ALL fitted by me and my bruv)...

EXTERIOR:
  • Full M Sport kit front and rear bumpers and sideskirts all genuine BMW parts (I had a full kit in silver so saved on painting costs).
  • LCI Headlights with upgraded H8 LED bulbs to give white ring effect and also fitted xenon look bulbs
  • Chrome kidney grilles.
  • Full LED rear darkline lights (look awesome and threw up no errors).
  • OEM M Tech rear spoiler (came fitted with it so didn’t have to change it with the brand new one I recently bought).
  • 19” Deep dish wheels with staggered set up (8.5J 35 ET fronts and 10J 30ET on the rears).
  • Also debadged it as it gives the back end a cleaner smoother look.

INTERIOR:
  • Upgraded to M Sport steering wheel (feels a million time better).
  • M Sport gear knob and handbrake handle.
  • Upgraded to full black M Sport leather s (although it did come standard with black cloth M Sport seats).
  • Swapped out the door sills to the M sport ones too.
  • Changed interior trims to the new M Sport checkered trim only found on LCI models.
  • Changed all knobs, headlight switch and cup holders to LCI one with chrome bits (makes a huge difference I think).

FUTUTRE MODS:
  • Remap or tuning box (undecided which route to take with that as of yet).
  • Lowering Springs (already got a set of HR springs, which will be fitted very soon).
  • Black headliner (complete set sat in garage so hopefully will do that conversion too).
  • Front Splitters (again have these so will get them painted and fitted).
  • Tints (nothing silly that draws attention but will be a subtle shade of tint).
  • Exhaust upgrade (may just elect to get the ugly downpipe cut and fitted with new twin tips)
  • Change badges to carbon ones (black and silver) had these on my E46 and look well smart.
  • Also may change the pedals to the BMW performance ones and fit the ///M dead pedal too.

Unfortunately I aint got any before pics but I guess you all know what an SE looks like!
But anyway here are the pics… ENJOY and any comments welcome!

Also had that trim on my 08 320d M sport?

Good job though, looks good, but have to ask, why buy an SE and then spend time and money on becoming an M Sport? On the V5 it will always be an SE and valued as such.

I've got an SE 335d and plan togo "msport". The reasons I've gone down this route are:

1) SE was 2-3k cheaper when i purchased, 17k vs 20k for me

2) only costs 1.5k to put on msport kit so the difference is less

3) Cash flow....couldn't justify spending all that money in one go (bit silly yes)

4) buying a 3yr old car results in stone chips all over the front bumper, I'd want it resprayed anyway so I getting this done sorts that out.

5) keeps me busy, I like car tarting up my car....not to be confused with chavving up my car.

Looks a decent job, but I'm with the 'why'. If its down to budget, then fair enough, but looks like a load of hassle to me, especiallly changing the headlining. And imho if you want OEM look, the wheels have to go. Enjoy it.

Thinking the same, it's not an M Sport it's a converted SE You have made a nice job of it though except for the wheels imo

back end looks good just need to change the exhaust tips

all black grill on the front would finish it off

deep dish alloys don't look right on an e90

the wheel are those u like or u dont and tbh they look nice in the flesh... so defo sticking with them. if i get bored of them ill just stick some 225's or mv3's... but deep dish for now!

headlight switch was about £30 i think.

steering whall was weel easy to fit but getting of the SE wheel was a bitch.

cost of a complete wheel can vary £250 - £400 dependant on seller

Top job and very well done but surely it must be cheaper and easier just to buy an M Sport in the first place? Must affect your insurance as well as that is going to be one long list of mods?

easier yesy but cheaper... id say no!!

i did summat similar to an e46 se i previously had.

had it for 18 mnths and sold it with a little profit inc. cost of sports bit!

i can get m sport bits at a good price.... so the SE to M Sport conversion was a definite goer for me.

plus i love modding!!!

Looks good - nice job.

Where did you get hold of the Aluminium Glacier trim? I have a 118D Msport company car that goes back in 3 weeks (being replaced with E92 320D Msport ) ) but the silver trim on passenger dash is buggered so need to get it changed before the lease company sting me for it!

Lowered springs on SE shocks? You can get away with it on shorter/stiffer M shocks but the longer/softer SE shocks won't last too long and you will likely hit the bump stops easily on our crap roads. My last 320d had H&R's and would bottom out with M Sport suspension.

I just changed out the plain cupholders for LCI ones with the chrome bits, which matches the other chrome bits...
