E90 trunk not staying open
The trunk seems to have lost pressure in the (hydraulic or pneumatic) support struts. The trunk doesnt seem to want to come open without any help when opening, and slams shut when i let go. I dont know if this is with a lot of e90's but my dad's f30 328 seems to swing open when he presses the button to open the trunk
Could it need new support struts? Any fixes?

+1 My 06 E90 did the same thing. Nearly chopped my fingers off once. You'll never realize how nice of an upgrade new trunk struts are until you have them

10 minute replacement and your trunk will feel brand new.

The gas springs in the hood are probably close behind the ones for the trunk lid. Just replace all 4 of them.

Good point Ef! Considering how cheap they are to replace, and how easy it is to install, might as well knock them all out.

FWIW I replaced both my hood and trunk struts recently.
OE hood struts are Stabilus and the replacements work great. For some reason, OE trunk struts are Suspa, and I couldn’t find them as a non BMW-branded part. Mucho expensive, so I went with Stabilus instead... They’re just okay. It’s still necessary to give the trunk a helping hand to open it, but it doesn’t take too much effort. My biggest complaint is that they aren’t damped well at the end of their travel, so instead of the lid slowing down as it approaches the end/bump stops, it hits them with enough force that it bounces a bit. Perhaps I didn’t look hard enough to find an OE (Suspa) non genuine-BMW replacement. If anyone knows where to find this, I’m interested. From what I’ve read, others have had this same issue with these struts. But, they cost about 1/4 of what the OE ones do... My solution has been to use one new strut and one old strut, because it bothers me more to see/hear my trunk bouncing at the end of its travel more than it bothers me having to give it a little lift. That spring idea is actually pretty good. The F30 trunk is designed differently. I miss how easy it was to open!

This is an E91 photo, but similar things can happen to the other E9x models with less wires to the lid: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showp...97&postcount=5 George |

I know this might be a pointless ask, but any way you can take a short vid showing me the operation of your trunk? I’d like to see what mine SHOULD be like... Thanks!
