Bmw 320d 2008 - n47 engine - video
Hi everyone
Just looking for some advice, I’ve recorded a video of my BMW 2008 320d engine. Does this sound like the chain needs replaced? |

Does sound like a loose chain, but maybe you could narrow it down by using screwdriver, placing it in different places where the chain would be and see if you can hear it better?

Does sound a bit chainy but that is located at the rear of the engine.
Is the noise actually coming from the AC pump the area you have filmed? If so I would check your AC pump bearing+clutch, vibration damper, pulley bearings etc first. Can not really tell by the video. |

It might be, but doesn't sound like chains to me. Like others have said, chains are at the back of this engine, so if the noise is from the front then anything attached to your serpentine belt is suspect.
Does the noise change with revs, other than following the speed of the engine? Chains tend to have a speed where they sound worst (about 1600rpm on my better half's n47). |
