Secondary cat delete vs midpipes

What would the difference in sound be like for cutting off the secondary cats versus replacing the 2" midpipes with 2.5" AFE midpipes?

currently have the PE exhaust with the resonator delete.

I can’t imagine there would be any difference in sound at all.

And you really want the Supersprint Mid Pipes not the AFE. Don’t get AFE because the Pipes are too large diameter and you don’t want exhaust gasses slowing before the merger if you want to make the most power.

yes, the AFE midpipes delete the cats but since they are 2.5" instead of the stock pipe's 2", was just wondering if they changed how it sounds significantly

PE = Performance Exhaust.

It used to be offered by BMW. However, they have discontinued it about 14 months ago. IMO, it is the best sounding exhaust that you could get on N52.

All other things being equal, a secondary cat delete will make the car a little louder.

Whether the pipes are 2" or 2.5" isn't important for sound (but for N52 cars, 2" is better, primarily due to exhaust gas velocity)

I just installed the afe midpipes with my pe exhaust and it made a significant difference. It's louder, hits deeper notes and pops when you drive aggressively.

+1 for me

I have driven 1000KM on my PE with the AFE Mid Pipes and it sounds awesome. Also have the performance intake which really adds to the sound!

PE paired with supersprint mid pipes are better. Retains all oem mount point like transmission mounts to midpipe which you loose with AFE.

I've had the AFE installed for years and wish I went with SS mids..
