I have a 2011 328xi, could not find built up units anywhere. I ordered all components, OE /OEM only, cost me a small fortune. One of my springs had broke, so I needed to purchase them, and went with BMW OEM on those!
I also changed out the upper strut mounts, had to go OEM with them as OE supplies were not available. All this added up $$$ wise! I ended up building 2 new complete struts using nothing from my old ones!

Thanks

Appreciate the reply. I too searched high and low. Could not find a complete set. Will just have to tear them both down and identify which parts need to be replaced.

Good Luck...
I do not have any strut rebuild experience to speak of, so I did not have a spring compressor tool before starting the job.
Over the years I have seen a few strut springs become air born during servicing, with a few of those causing damage to the objects they hit, fortunately, no people injured!

I went with the style of spring compressor shown in the below video, and set it up exactly as shown. A few practice tries & got the job done!

The video has good info should you choose to go with Bilsteins, as well as good general info on strut servicing!

Have you tried Strutmonkey . com ? I used them before and they can answer all your questions before purchase. Owner is/was a member here.

I bought a set of Supreme Power lower perches in the spring and borrowed the spring compressor from Auto Zone. After multiple attempts and not wanting to get injured, I realized that the spring was not going to compress enough to get the bolt on. I founds a nearby shop to assemble the strut for me and I had no issues reinstalling. It cost me $80 and I had no regrets. I'd buy the parts and have a local shop put them together.

I just did struts on my 335i last December and reused my springs but nothing else as it was all garbage. I ordered a "cup kit" from ECS which included everything I needed except bump stops which I also ordered as that was the main failure, the complete disintegration of my bump stops followed by the failure of the RF strut. Of course, after I did so, my neighbor tells me I should have ordered Monroe or poly rear upper mounts, oh well the parts are in there now.

you do need to verify the part nos. with stock however. the links above are from my actual order and those parts are for my E92 which all have sport suspension in the US. I guess the regular suspension bump stops are different.

Also, I was able to swing the front struts out from under the car no problem, but the Koni Special Active struts I replaced them with have a much longer extended length, I had to get real creative as I hadn't disconnected my TREs or anything as I didn't think I would have to. Fun fun using a spring compressor to install the new ones and uncompressing them with hand tools from under the fender...
