Text Messages via your BM's idrive

I read in the handbook it's possible to receive such messages to your cars idrive, if the network provider is set-up for them.

Is anyone able to do this, or know how to set it up?

Do you just mean read the texts off your phone using the idrive screen? If so, just go to 'messages' and they should be there.

You can't text the car direct as you don't know the number, although i'm sure something could be done if you did, like BMW and google can send the car messages and text direct.

Yes DB, My texts don't show, I'm with O2

From BMW's site, It looks like it's my phone which is incompatable, not many Nokia's are.

I think it has more to do with what phone you have, and what is listed on the BMW compatability list.

I have the 2010 idrive and messaging is not compatable with Iphone.

Its a phone compatability issue defo, nowt to do with your network. I'm on O2 as well BTW.

That's the main reason i've stuck with sony erricson for 6 years now, they work 100% spot on with BMW Bluetooth.

All texts appear in the car (along with the entire phone memory of texts) as soon as your phone gets a new message. Pity you can't reply via the i drive!!

Nokia lost the plot for me a few years ago....

I looked on the BMW site, but it's not very helpful, as you can ask it to list phones that are compatable with different functions, such as text messages, under the offiice section. But it then goes on to list all phones, even ones which are not compatable.

Are you sure? The filter seemed to work well when I used it e.g. selecting Office takes away all phones bar Nokia and Sony Ericcson hence people with iPhones and BBs not having the text function working.

This worked on my Nokia N97, but doesn't on my HTC Desire (and neither does the name of caller when the phone rings)

I tried it 2 or 3 times, unless I'm doing something wrong, I ticked office, which showed a list of phones, one of which was a Nokia X6, but when I actually chose the X6, It showed it as non compatible with SMS

You're right there, my mistake seems to list as compatible if 'some' of the office functions work e.g. for the X6 Calendar, tasks and notes work but not email or SMS. Strange.

I just realised this function work perfectly with my Cayman S, you could read and answer emails via Porsche's in car screen. It's not the end of the world, just annoying when these things don't talk to each other.

Agreed, I was really excited about this but the functionality with my BB is so disapointing! Shouldn't be difficult to get the software right as other cars have it?
