Need help buying 2008 335xi

Hey im looking to buy a 2008 335xi with only 24000 miles on it, can anyone provide any insight for what i might be getting into maintance wise ?

Uhhh, you're getting into a lot with a 335i. A lot lol. This is a car you're going to need an emergency fund for. With that low of mileage you may be okay for a while, but the higher it climbs, the more you may experience. Be diligent with maintenance intervals.

Intervals meaning water pump at xxxxxx miles, thermostat at xxxxx miles, spark plugs at xxxxxx miles. Diligence meaning be pro-active and your car won't leave you stranded as often lol.

Warranty?

I have an 08 335xi e90. I've had to replace everything from alternator, control arms/bushings, ENGINE!!, coolant lines, water pump, DME!! and a shit load of other things. I still love it but really wish I had an e46 M3 instead.

Mileage can vary quite a bit with this car as to when things need to get replaced. The water pump and thermostat are anytime after 50k (some last well over 100k also), the spark plugs depend on if you are tuned or not, if you are and it's an aggressive tune expect new plugs and possibly new coils every two years, suspension bits are on par with regular cars (60-80 it starts to feel loose). Injectors also seem to go out once and a while and can be pricey depending on what version is already installed on the car. As to total engine failure, it's not too common but it can happen, usually on modified cars but again, it can happen on stock cars too. I'd say you have a good 25k before anything will really start to need replacing, but every car is different. Take it to a shop you trust to do a check and make sure it has the paperwork to back up its history.

Everything above is from my own research, there will always be people that have had to replace things sooner and later than the average. Moral of the story is it can be an expensive car. Make sure you have the funds to fix it when it breaks. If you do this, it will treat you well(usually).

I have an 08 335xi e92 now at 100,000 miles.

The only time I was left stranded in it was when the waterpump went out at 99,700 miles without warning although I had a new one ready to go.

I am not sure you have to stay ahead of the game with spark plugs, coils or injectors. You could probably wait to change those until the car misfires which will restrict you from driving aggressively until you change them out.

I did have to get a new alternator I believe around 70k miles, a new battery at 90k miles. Rear brakes lasted until about 68k miles, fronts until 80k miles. BMW swapped in new turbos at 81,500 miles under recall warranty, BMW did the injectors and HPFP at 30,000 miles under recall, BMW did spark plugs/coils once under maintenance just before 50k miles and I did them as well as injectors again at 100k miles. Stock suspension was still in good shape at around 82k miles when I started playing with upgrades and removed it. Regular oil changes.

Maintaining the car exclusively through your local BMW dealer is what can be expensive as well as the additional breakdowns that come with being aggressively modified. If you are going for a conservative tune, know how to shop for parts either online or through this forum and know a trusted indy mechanic or can do some of the work yourself than its not really that costly to maintain and in my experience a reliable and extremely fun to drive car.

this thread has me a bit worried! haha
I'm supposed to pick up an E92 335xi with about 75k on it later this week.
bumper to bumper warranty until 105,000 miles though.

just buy aftermarket warranty. I bought route 66 warranty for $2800 for 4yrs up to 140k. Just do a search on route 66 on the forums. If one thing breaks....you pretty much get all your money back.

route 66 is usually offered by credit unions are can be rolled into your car loan if yo get it from them. It basically only adds $30.00 a month to your monthly car payment.

Thanks guys all of this is soo helpful, im probably not gonna buy that one cuz the dealer is a doosh* but i might try buying one with a few more miles and I'll check out that route 66 warranty for sure
