This update worked perfectly! Thanks OP!

To anyone on a Mac with issues, its best to use a Windows computer.

Install 7zip file manager, extract the file to a folder. Format a 32GB USB drive as FAT32, then drop whats inside the extracted folder (one folder and a small file) to the USB drive.

Should work!

I think that it’s a lack of instructions. I searched this forum and on Yahoo and found nothing. As it turned out, I noticed that all five pkg folders were identical so I unzipped the first and that’s all I needed.

7zip for Windows or Keka for macOS. OS-default zip tools suck.

Fully aware of it. Speed is not relevant to me as I just leave computer running until It’s downloaded.

You’re trying to get free stuff but are anti-torrent. Hmm... You’re most likely SOL. Just use torrent or pay for it from a 3rd party who host on MEGA.

I can hook you up with my paid source who hosts on MEGA before I discovered torrent is free. PM me if you wanna pay $40-$50 for it.

I've downloaded successfully and keeping seeds/peering open for awhile.

Pardon my ignorance but now what? I purchased the maps with a code before. Do I need a code again and if yes, where do I get it? Is it something I need to purchase?

Also, is there a link to the installation instructions? I apologize if I missed threads that include this information. It has been a number of years since I upgraded my maps.

Thank you.

Edit: I found instructions on how to generate a code and that I needed to extract the RAR files and put them on a single USB and am in the process of updating my maps. Thanks. Last time I paid for the code, instructions and believe I needed to use multiple USB sticks but that was for 2016 maps.

Thanks for the link to the download.

How long should the update take?

How long should the update take? The update is currently in process at around 62% after over 3 hours.

My car is running, can I shut the engine off and leave the power on without hurting the update?

Earlier in this thread I read it took a bit over an hour for someone and that was one of the longer times. Is it due to the year of my car and/or updating 4 some years of maps that is requiring such a long time to update?

I have a 2009 335i Coupe (E92). I purchased a 2016 premium NA map update from a forum member either in 2015 or early 2016. I vaguely remember getting instruction, a code and a download link that required multiple USB sticks. Installation and update worked without issue. I don't remember how long it took.

Thank you

Edit: Update finally finished. It took over 6 hours. Any idea why it took so long? Map version is showing USB 2020. While checking the updated map version and with the USB still in the glove box slot, I was prompted again there was a more current version. I canceled the requested update. Strange.

Plug in, in the glovebox and it will notice it within a few minutes of turning on the key and ask to update. Follow the 1b extract thread to extract your 1b and generate an FSC code if you have not already, do a lifetime when you do it and you won't need to do the fsc part ever again.
I read what seem to be conflicting instructions somewhere else in this thread or another thread on this forum to select all RAR files and extract them with WinRar. You mention only the first file needs to be extracted? What happens with the other 4 RAR files or am I reading your comment incorrectly?

Thanks.

Use 7zip instead of Winrar. If you select the first file, it will automatically uncompress the rest of the rar files all by itself, leaving you with a single folder with the required files.

The update should take about 45-50 minutes. Most of that time is spent actually moving a copy of the files to the HDD.

If there are issues with the HDD, or the HDD is in use (e.g. you have navigation open, or you are using Satellite Radio) then it can take longer.

Issues with the USB drive and it's speed can also slow things down.

You CAN turn off the car and the upload will resume once you restart the vehicle. However don't turn off the car when you get to the "rebooting to apply" message.

If you leave the USB stick plugged in, upon restart you may again see the prompt for the update. Just remove the stick, and check the installed version to be sure...
