God knows mate I'm not to clued up on these things 😳 shows you how much know, I was thinking a fuel filter problem 😄😄😄😄
I'm clutching at straws to be honest mate seems like it could be a number of factors. I've always quite fancied squeezing a few more ponies out of mine so 330d injectors could solve my problem

Garage List
I got this problem to on my F30 '14.

The problem started after the EGR change and after refueling with Shell V power.

Anyone got this sorted out?

I looks like it cuts of the power at 60 km/h for a half second and then goes back.

Initially thought it was the transmission but that didn't gave any fault message on ISTA/D.

Then thought about the DPF but that isn't even 1/4 ashed.

Anyone got the problem solved?

E92 320d flat spot

Hi jumping on an old thread but has anyone got a definitive answer on this flat spot/ hesitation between 1500 and 1700 rpm.
Like most it happens when I'm driving slower ie through a high street or about the doors.
There has been a lot of different ideas on here but nothing solid.
Obviously I want to start with the least costing fix and take it from there, mayb start with maf clean. I'm not mechanically minded so I won't be doing any work like this my self.

get on youtube..the easy fixes are just that easy,,and its very self satisfying doing it yourself,,,,just remeber when taking bits off,,lay them out in order with bolts/screws etc,,but once you have done it a few times it becomes easier

Sounds like an EGR problem. If it's not the EGR itself, it's likely the vacuum controller that activates the EGR that's at fault. It's not an expensive part to change.

Or just have the EGR function mapped out while leaving all the EGR hardware installed and just forget about it.

Thanks for that, car is in on Friday to get brakes done so I'll mention this to them. Is this something I could do.?

Depends which engine you have. I've only done it on the M57 and M47 engines. They were pretty easy to take the EGR's off for a good clean. The vacuum controller is more tricky to get at on the M57 as it's under the manifold. I believe on the E9x 320d's it bolted to the side of the block near the EGR and is much easier to change.

I had similar problem with mine, hesitation on light throttle. Swapped with known good EGR and problem still there so I knew it was the vacuum control unit. As it was a pain in the ass to get at and I was having a remap done, I decided to get the EGR function disabled as part of the map. All the hardware is still connected no point in deleting it as long as the EGR does close fully and is not stuck open.

I had a bluefin map and had actually loaded it onto the car before I tried to cure the hesitation issue. After I discovered the cause I phoned superchips and asked them to tweak my map to disable the EGR and downloaded it to my bluefin unit.

Flashed it to the ECU with the hand held unit and hey presto, no more hesitation. Such a nice feeling to get rid of the annoying hesitation.

I believe it's an N47 it's an e92 320d on an 11 plate, there's a guy near me who specialises in Bmw tuning.. RD motorsport think he has something to do with Celtic tuning.
I'll give him a shout tomorrow and mention this to him. I'll keep u posted. It really is annoying the life out of me to be honest, will it effect the car long term or get worse? It'll probably be next month before I can get to him as I'm completely skint the now :

Have a Google on how to remove and clean the EGR, this may cure the problem for just a can of carb cleaner (that's what I used). If this does not work try changing the vac controller. Again Google it to see how, it's very easy. A second hand unit off eBay will be less than £40. You don't have to take it to a garage.

Update?

Hi Everyone,

I’m just wondering if there’s any update on this or has anyone been able to resolve the issue? I’ve recently been getting a similar experience on my 2011 N47 320d. A consistent code is coming up through my Carly app (4862 Air System, Air to EGR Mass Flow Plausibility).

Checked the EGR, which doesn’t appear to be blocked and my intercooler has recently swollen (Which can supposedly be caused by an EGR fault)

Check that the egr valve operates freely. There's a routine in ISTA-D that'll cycle the valve so you can test it, or you can manipulate it manually on the fully electronic versions.

Having this problem as well lately on my n47 320d auto. Typically happens between 50-60 mph and around 1500 rpm. Have recently had codes related to EGR (control position & plausibility) appear but haven't returned since I erased them a few days ago.

Probably just getting a bit dry/stuck - take the cover off the EGR actuator and have a feel.

Would a dodgy egr cause such an issue ?

Would a dodgy EGR be triggering codes related to EGR operation? Yes... Sorry, but surely that's pretty obvious. Or have I misunderstood your question?

As mentioned in my previous post, there's a test routine in ISTA-D to actuate the EGR; that's a nice way to check it, if you have the software and a cable.

You have! Would a dodgy egr be causing the misfire feeling I'm getting when cruising along and also described in the first post of the thread.

Ah! Well, yes. EGR affects the actual useful AFR that arrives in the combustion chamber, so any malfunction will cause AFR to skew and result in bad running one way or another. If the DDE expects one thing, then a different thing happens, hesitation is a very likely outcome because the engine will run badly until the DDE compensates for the malfunction as best it can. Or in the case of a sticky EGR, it'll run badly until the EGR actually moves to the commanded position.
