Minneapolis/Saint Paul - window tint

My buddy wants to tint his Vdub, but doesn't know where to go in the Twin Cities area.
Any suggestions?

Try Sun Control in St. Paul (google that shit).

I was actually just on the phone with my buddy who went to college up there at Bethel. Said he got his Maxima done there and they did a nice job.

Street Scenes -- hands down.

Otherwise, Pro-Tint in Bloomington.

Gjerdes Solar Shield in Savage. You can get the new Lumar that doesn't interfere with RF signals, ie Comfort Access. I have had 4 cars done there, and have a bunch of friends that have also. 100% perfect.

How much have you all been paying for tint at your places? Gjerdes told me 250, Sun control in Brooklyn Park told me 270. But I just talked to a gal last weekend who had hers done at Sun control in St. Paul and she said she paid like 180 last year. She did give me a $20 off coupon she had too. I just don't see how a Ford Fusion is 180 and my E90 is 270?!?!?

I think this last time I paid 325ish. It does depend on what type of tint you use, the best tints have an upcharge. The last 2 before that were around 250; from Gjerdes.

Thanks. I did think $180 seemed pretty cheap, but 270 sounded a tad too high for standard tint. And he gave me that quote after he saw I had a BMW, so I wondered if he added a couple bucks on thinkin I'm rich or something.

Gjerdes tinted the windows on our house and did a great job.

Did anyone see the article in the paper yesterday stating that the MN legislature passed a law that you will now need a doctor's note to get your windows tinted any more? Seems pretty extreme--anyone have any more details on that?

The price at Solar Shield is 249.99 on a 4 door BMW and that comes with a lifetime warranty.

The new change in the MN state law states new car dealers, leasers, and used car sales cannot sell a car with window film that does not meet the statue 169.71. It is still legal to put 50% on. But be careful that the tint shop takes in consideration your factory glass. Darker factory glass plus 50% film will be too dark. Some shops have a lighter than 50% film to bring the percent closer to the legal limit.
The only other change in the law is the perscription, you must have light transmission percent and it will expire every two years.
