It does not seem like I'm covered anymore by that extended warranty, is that true?

If I decide to go with after market turbos to push the car to 700_800 hp range, where should I start? What turbos do u recommend? My mechanic said it will cost about $2k for the aftermarket turbos and 500 labor.
500 labor??!!...where do you live? that sounds way too cheap...you sure he didnt say- 500 for tubo (one turbo) and 2K labor? . That'll be more in the ball park.

Anyway, for 800hp you want to go single. There are plenty of twin turbo options like- Hexon, Pure, etc. They'll all get you 600+ whp, depending on which config you go to.

I did not say I can push 800hp for $2500, what I meant is an after market turbo similar to the factory one is running around $2k for parts, and he verbally said it cost around $500 to install, the guy knows well what he is doing but he has a long back log and won't get my car in the shop till next month. Ofcourse, if I want to push much more power, it will cost waaaay over those numbers.

The mods I have are JP2 and Dual-cone intake, which is something that could be a contributing reason to the wastegate failure....I'm still investigating.

Guys,

=( =( =(

i got my 08' 535xi 3 years ago @ 73k miles. i have had the dreaded "engine malfunction, reduced power" sign come and go over the years (under 82k miles as well), now my baby is at 119k miles. i move states alot and had the car checked in MD and FL prior to here in IN, everyone always said everything is good dont worry

just on last road trip from IN to VA, 9hr drive . it popped up like 10-15 times....making me more and more worried. dropped it at an indy shop and they said all good LPFP is bad and hence shutting turbos, relieved i got that fixed just this week (costing 850$, 3 hrs labor and 450$ in parts, is this ok price)

1 mile out of shop i floor the car and get same error again. take it back the guy is still diagnosing but he said seems like waste gate issue....

will i be covered in warranty ? i know it says i wont be.......any suggestions i can get them b**ches (dealer) to fix this.....as the error always popped way beofre i hit 82k miles...is there a way such old error codes can be pulled...

TY for tips and advice,
R

Get the codes first. They should have provided you with what codes the car is throwing. A lot of those cause engine malfunction. IT does not have to be turbos/wastegates. Do your rattle? Mine rattles, but held boost fine. A fairly common issue is plugs and coils. This pretty cheap

That being said, its really hard to say what it couls be without knowing the codes.

Also 850 for lpfp is a bit steep. The best option would be to upgrade to stg 2 lpft- 350 for parts, and 30 mins of your time. I am not the best DIYer, and I wrapped up in 30.

Look for another shop, might as well go to the dealer for that price.

What year is your 135i? And what is the cost for the fresh turbos?

May 10 2017 and my '09 335i just got fresh turbos under warranty

Had about a week left on my 8 year warranty and the Athens, Ga BMW dealer covered my turbos. 50K miles, no codes, no smoke. Just the tell-tail rattling under decel.

Rather pleased with this. Just another data point.

I took my 335i (In service date mid June 2009, currently at 68K miles) to one of the two dealers in Miami and was told that I would need more rattle for them to replace the turbo's. My wastegate rattle is very noticeable so I assume they just didn't want to do the job. I got a tip from a member on here to take it to another dealer which reminds me I need to schedule an appointment as I only have a month left.

Was told that mine were only 6mm out of spec and the warranty replacement needed the wastegates to be 8mm out of spec.. I lost my shit, and it got me no where smh.. BMWNA did nothing about it either, even though I sent them a document from my local BMW of Fort Myers stating, "the turbos are bad, but they're not bad enough", I actually almost went the legal route.. But RB came thru with his CHRA replacements and I figured I'll just never go to the dealer again for service..

$145 I think... I eventually got it waived after my arguing and bickering.. And I took my car to BMW of Naples and they diagnosed it for free, apologized for Fort Myers shitty customer service, and ended up telling me the same thing basically.. It's bad, but not bad enough...

So today I had an appointment at Lauderdale BMW of Pembroke Pines and the service advisor saved me the diagnostic fee by having a master tech come out and listen to my rattle. The tech confirmed that the turbos should be replaced, however, I have turbosmart diverter valves and he mentioned that they would have to call some regional rep guy to see if they can do it. So they said they'll be in touch with me. Gun to the head, I'll be denied. Upgraded turbos to the rescue!

Such a waste, why is everyone replacing entire turbos because of WG rattle? Lots of shops specializing in BMW can replace the faulty WG actuators for about $800

At that price might as well get upgraded turbos for a few hundred more and it looks like I may be headed down that road. I'll follow up with them by Tuesday.

Got a text from the SA and here it is:

Yes they said we can take your car and I have to get $159 diagnostic from you if the rattle is not affected by your blow off valves they will cover it if it ends up the blowoff valve caused the issue then it would not be covered and you'd be subject to the 159.

By him saying that, it's a guarantee they won't be covered.

So did you end up letting them diagnose the Turbos waiste gate? Did they end up covering it with the warranty?

They weren’t covered so no new turbos. I still get 30ff from time to time when going WOT but no hesitation/CEL. I plan on upgrading the turbos within a few months.

Has anyone had any luck getting this warranty work performed on 2011 or newer models?

I don't know if they made a change in the actuators following this class action (someone in this thread stated they may have extended the rod from 6mm to 8mm?), but my 2012 335is (still an n54) seems to be having the same issues and my dealership of course is saying it falls outside the MY range.
