^ I think I'm going to send another sample into Blackstone as well. We have roughly 8k on the oil now. I'm considering doing another 12k analysis to see if anything differs from the last Blackstone report 27k miles ago.

This is awesome. I went 10K on my last T6 oci and also had TBN of +7 and below avg wear. No additives.

A lot of folks give me crap for running cheap oil. I prefer the low wear levels

T6 is great oil and just because its cheap at Walmart does not make it bad oil.

Oh I know...there are some on FB that believe it needs to be German oil and cost $100 to be good. I'm good with my cheap "walmart oil"

Last I checked, there aren't that many oil wells in Germany

Changed the oil yesterday -- more blue gallons of T6 from Walmart.

Has anyone else found the Mann oil filters difficult to load onto the spindle? I really had to push hard and was halfway thinking I had the wrong part.

I had to press the shit out of my Mann filter last time to get it on, oil everywhere (The little bit left in the housing all came out, lol)

Also, how much oil do you guys pour in? I've read online that I'm supposed to put in 6.9quarts. But I've put in 2 gallons before and it wasn't enough.

15w40 turns into molasses at 5 degrees. A 5w40 doesn't. Stick with what's recommended.

As for how much oil to put in, start with the same amount you took out. I usually do 6 quarts then start measuring in order to top up. Simple stuff.

pdx.e9d - I agree with lnxguy about the oil stick with the recommended viscosity. I have a duramax that uses 15W-40 oil. It is much more viscous right out of the bottle at room temperature than my 5w-40 I use in my 335d. Using high viscosity oil in your car can cause oil starvation and ruin your engine.
I have always used 3 to 5k oil change intervals all my life. I bought a 2004 passat tdi and decided to try the recommended oil change intervals of 10k miles. After 250,000 miles, I sold the car and it still ran like new and used no oil between oil changes. I sold the car to my local ups driver three years ago and she stops by once every 6 months or so and tells me the passat is the best car she ever owned and is going to drive it until if falls apart.
This leads me to believe that unless you plan on driving your car to 400k or higher, you are not gaining anything by changing your oil more frequently than recommended.
I am 67, retired, drive 5k per year, and own 7 vehicles. I will change my oil at intervals recommended by the manufacturers. If you feel better changing more often, then do it. But, I don't think it is needed if you plan to get a new car before 300k. When was the last time you heard of an engine throwing a rod through the block?

I put 7L into 335d and X5 35d, then top up to max a day or two later, if needed.
(I do not have patience to measure how much of the old oil came out)

Since we are talking about changing the oil. I have something to add. Never overfill your oil. If your oil level is high enough, the connecting rod will hit the surface of the oil and cause the oil to froth up and create a foam. Think of making whipped cream. Whipped cream is made by whipping air into the cream. The oil pump then picks up the foam and pumps it throughout the engine. The foam does not provide the needed lubrication and your engine is destroyed.
How much excessive oil does it take to do this. Probably a fair amount because manufacturers know this and allows for some oil overfilling. Don't take the risk if you overfill by very much, drain the excess.

I find a spot under my hood of my cars and use a black magic marker to write the number of liters of oil, the weight of the oil, the size wrench for the oil plug and filter wrench size needed to change the oil filter. Now when I change the oil. I just open the hood read what is needed and go get materials needed. No more crawling under the car and finding out I have the wrong wrench or not having the right amount of oil and needing to get another liter of oil.
If you write the information on something made of black plastic, it does not show or look bad. You have to look to even tell it is there.
