Serpentine Belt

Hey guys so I decided to do a visual check on my belt and I found this, I also have a whole kit from FCPeuro on the way. Just want to get opinions on what may be the chase of the abrasion? Thanks!

How old are your motor mounts/how many miles on the car? Sometimes the belts hit the subframe and shred, then get sucked up by the crank. Not good. Be careful in its current status, but also look into the mounts to see if they're sagging from age

Looks about time to change that thing. I agree with nissubaru and would add that depending on the tensioner's age, that would also be something to look at.

How many miles on the original tensioner?

I have 114k on the clock so the belt, tensioner and pulleys are way overdue but that's my fault I was suppose to do it around 80k but I kept putting it off lol. Engine mounts look good, car has been garaged at this point until I am able to fix it this Thursday. I have read too many horror stories so I'm not going to risk it.

You need to check your ps pulley and the subframe to see if they are making contact. Check your ps bolts to see if any are loose. Both the bolts on the ps pulley itself, and the bolts holding the ps pump. Your belt should not look like that from age alone. Have you ever had any oil leaks up front that you ignored for a while?

As others said, also check tensioner and pulleys, etc.

Dude I just randomly checked my belt and I got what appears to be a nasty gash in mine just in a small section?? What the hell could have cause that, I can't see anything that might have caused in looking down into the engine bay.

By the way how's your replacement going?

I would get the complete kit from FCPEuro. It comes with the pulleys etc. lucky for me I got mine swapped out the other day. My engine mounts looked good, nothing hitting the subframe, my tensioner was worn out and my pulleys were making noise already so glad to have my issue resolved. Thanks to everyone that chimed in!

I would get that fixed soon, might as well get the whole kit and have that peace of mind. My tensioner was on its way out.

Get a new tensioner, pullies and belt and drop your oil pan. I've read so many countless threads on the n54s about how they shredded a belt, or two and just replaced the belts and blew there engines from low oil pressure. The belts get sucked into the engine and stay in the oil pan and all it takes is 1 small piece to hit the right spot in your pan and a single strip can plug your oil pan and stop supplying your engine/turbos with oil.

Since your photo shows the end of your belt missing drop the oil pan and clean it out just encase ASAP!
