Clutch sliping sometimes

on my 318i clutch slipping sometimes edit: i would say judder more than slipping, is it DMF on its way?
Gear changes between 1st and 2nd sometimes not smooth too.
I owned VW passat before, and clutch was slipping on it too, but did last me for 2 years, and when i sold it was working OK.
Is it common problem?

Do you think RAC warranty will cover repair cost?
Can i use RAC warranty at BMW dealers?

Thanks

I believe the clutch juder is a common fault, my car had its clutched replaced at 40,000 miles for a clutch judder New fly wheel to.

My car is double that 80000k
Its drivible, but while its still under warranty maybe time to do it.
How much roughly it will cost?
Will it be covered under RAC warranty?

Stick it in 4th gear.

Try to pull away.

If it will do it .. great

If not ... clutch is fried.

It won't be covered under warranty and I'm afraid that it will be expensive as it is a gearbox out job.

Can you pull away in a high gear as my post above. If not, the clutch is gone. If there is an obvious fault it MAY be covered under warranty.

However, I have a feeling that you are having issues with the Clutch Delay Valve and or DSC engine intervention.

i will give try today.
did some driving today in the morning and it felt great, start thinking it because of driver (me) fault, throttle pedal not pressed enough, when taking off.
My old AA warranty covered all repair costs and only cost me £11 prm, replaced DMF and clutch under warranty on my vw

[QUOTE=NFS;6717256]Can you pull away in a higher gear as my post above. If so, the clutch is gone.

On your post above its opposite way
so which way is correct way to test clutch
I parked car on flat surface, selected 5th gear, hand brake on -try to pull away- engine nearly stalled
Same way but without handbrake, i can pull away on 5th gear.

Clutch feels better since i changed style of driving today, just using bit more throttle when pulling away

If you can pull away in 4th or 5th gear then the clutch is fine.

If it is worn, you will feel it slipping.

(handbrake off obviously).

If you could pull away in 5th gear then the clutch is not slipping.

Because these cars have a clutch dilution valve the bite point is a bit vague. I suspect this is your main issue. BMW's respond well to an 'enthusiastic' driving style, so a few extra revs should help.
