What Does First Yearly Service Involve? - U.S.
I bought my car from the U.S. about 10 months ago and exported it to Canada. Now all warranty work is covered up here but the yearly maintenance is not. I can take it to a dealership in Buffalo, which is about a 90 minute drive, to have it done. Is it worth it? What exactly will be done? I know the U.S. covers brakes in their maintenance. The car is a May 2013 build. If anyone has any details / experience please let me know. Thanks.

First of all grats
I've never owned a bmw within the 4 year maintenance, so this is all anecdotal. Someone correct me if im wrong. The previous owner though showed me his slip from when he went for hist last maintenance under warranty and honestly they just changed the oil/filter and cabin filter and did a XX-point inspection on it it looks like. So is it worth the drive? If you're comfortable changing your own oil and filters probably better to DIY. The inspection might be nice though just in case.

Assuming it is not an M-car, nothing but an oil change. In fact, my car is about to turn 3 years and 30K and the CBS is just calling for it's first actual service. Other than 3 oil changes it has had 2 sets of wiper blades and a cabin filter on BMW.

Free maintenance = very little maintenance
Free maintenance = very little maintenance
brake fluid changed every two years. Oil change yearly if you ask for it, otherwise cbs every 20 k for oil. maybe a cabin filter and if your lucky and air filter in 4 years. Brakes if you really work at wearing them out . Brakes will go well over 60 k if you drive normaly. They do look at it and they might run a code check on it. They are suppose to change the plugs at 45k on the turbo but they don't do this some places. Get a BMW code reader there are a lot of options. Coding setup from the coding boards or maybe BMWhat for your cell phone. Change the oil do a code check inspect the CV boots hoses and other boots, top off the fluids. Use BMW oil and parts and document the service you performed . You would save money doing all this stuff yourself probably the cost of the materials would be the same as the cost of gas . Ive gotten oil change once a year, regardless of miles, brake fluid every two years, air cabin filter, air intake filter, wipers, inspection, anything broken or problematic(like rattles) repaired. Other than that, they dont seem to follow the BMW suggested maintenance schedule.
