Low Profile Jack

Not sure where to post this, there is no tools section. So here it is.

If you are looking for a low profile jack that will reach the front jack point try the Arcan 2-Ton Low-Profile Model# XL2T. It will reach the front center jack point on an E90 even with sport suspension and on an M3 if you drive the front wheels onto a 2x6 piece of lumber. It's pricey at $229, but it works.

I bought mine at northern tool. I don't work for them or have any connection to them but I do like their prices / quality. You can save on shipping by joining their member club.

Hope this helps someone.

the harbor freight low profile jack is just 1/8 of an inch higher but costs $130 less than half the Arcan jack. And it clears a sport model 335i also

Which one? The daytona one?

https://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-...nge-64240.html

I use the one below but my car is lowered even past my M-Sport suspension so I actually use two jacks. The 1.5 ton race jack to lift up the driver side wheel, then I slide the low profile Harbor Freight jack under the front jack point and go from there. It's a bit annoying, but it works great lol

get some low profile ramps. Then you can drive up onto them first to jack up your car. I think mine cost about $50.

my E30 is too low to even get a low-profile jack under the subframe - and on the low profile ramps, it still barely clears the front lip. Normal size ramps are a no-go.

The best option I have found is going to home depot getting a deck board and making some "ramps" to get the car up that extra few inches.

Use some rhino ramps from Walmart. I got a pair for about 40$ or maybe cheaper. Much safer and easier to throw your car up on than a jack.

There's no way my E30 would be able to clear that angle. lol.

a stock RWD E90 isn't much higher either.. if your car is lowered you're going to need something low profile.

I think there was a company that was called Race Ramps (I'm also sure there were others) that used to make these segmented incline ramps that start up ultra low. I want to say the ramps were like 4' long if you bought all the extensions.

Not really. Jack stands and a jack I would argue is much safer than ramps and useable.

How are jack stands safer than having the wheels planted on a flat surface?

Sorry I kinda had in mind lifted on all 4s.

But still, why not just buy stands instead of ramps, it's cheaper and as safe unless you're an idiot and fuck up badly I suppose?

With stands only you will need a jack for sure but if you're wrenching on your car why wouldn't you have a jack anyways. Plus ramps only with when the wheels are on. So IMO another waste of money.

But hey, if you just want to do oil changes and nothing more I suppose it's an option. Just that ramps will limit you at some point if you keep on going and interested in wrenching further than just oil changes.

I'm not disputing what you said in this post. As someone with only rhino ramps for the past 3 years or so, I can attest to its limitations and overall lack of space it gives you under the car. I finally bought jack stands and with that I was able to do brakes, transmission oil change and pan/filter along with mechatronic refresh. I was just wondering what your logic for saying jack stands are safer than ramps was. Ramps alone are great for oil changes, as you said. I like to do ramps on the front and stands on the back.

See in your case of ramps in front and stands in rear I would argue all 4 stand is safer because now with there is 2 failure points, ramp collapsing and somewhat of a rolling risk is still there is a stand slips or something in the back. While all 4 stand planted the car isn't going nowhere.

But I agree it can be less safe to the process to set it up on all 4 stands. compared to drive on ramps and just jack the rear.
