Got mine done. My story was similar to the one posted above with the broken bolt heads and fragments in the oil.
Seems all good now.

Damn... all this VANOS talk has me paranoid.

I feel as if my car is hesitating a little bit under heavy acceleration lately, and almost feels as though it's holding back somewhat during boost throughout the powerband.

I hope there's no major issue under the hood though... I see no engine lights etc.

There's also a bit of noise briefly during engine start up and a bit of a racket coming from the crankcase...

I have it at the dealer now for an unrelated issue with the hardtop main support arms- guess I'll have them check to see if all of my bolts are where they should be

I first asked about the parts themselves and was directed to the parts department who confirmed they had received the parts and I was then directed to scheduling to make an appointment.

I'm scheduled to have the recalled performed Monday, 9/29. Well before my upcoming road trips. Whew! Quoted work time on their records was between 4 hours to 2 days. I think the gap is so wide because maybe if there's more extensive damage from bolts actually busted, then it might take longer as opposed to if everything's fine and they just need to replace the bolts.

I'll try to remember to ask if I can see the bolts they took out because the other massive thread has pics in one of the more recent posts comparing different bolt heads. (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=265)

@Dark_Knight_335: this example at least confirms your theory as far as the upper midwest goes! Maybe BMW feels bad that we had such an awful winter last year... and that this year's is predicted to be pretty awful too.
Oh I won't take that away from you guys brother...looks like we're in for another ride this year.

I would say we are...

I misread my calendar yesterday (Mondays, you all know how it goes), but one of my road trips is actually this upcoming weekend just before my recall service for Monday. I'll be driving about 270 miles each way.

I think I'll be fine, but all of ya have me worried, haha. My car was built in May 2011 and has about ~35k miles on it, which is outside of the parameters that the recall document noted as having the highest rates of failure.

In any case, I'll report back once the recall service is performed on my car.

Maybe have them check for boost leaks while the car is at the dealership?

I just got the recall done at New Century BMW. Looks like they're just receiving the parts.

They didn't find any broken bolts but replaced both bolts and replaced valve cover gasket.

Apparently they call the recall: "Surprise Vanos Recall Campaign Special Gift" ?!? lol

It's pretty fast ~ same or by next day. I had maintenance done on my car as well so it was about 1.5 days.

I'll have Prestige BMW in Ramsey do that- JMK won't touch the DINAN, although they're doing the VANOS, brake fluid, microfilter, and hardtop stuff for me

Still nothing from my local dealers. Seems crazy how long it's taking to get some bolts manufactured and sent out to the dealers.

I got a letter way bback and I am still waiting. I'm going to call Monday and see what's up. I live in Roanoke, VA and the dealership doesn't seem to be as good as Rahal in Canonsburg, PA where I use to get my service done.

Sorry to thread jack, but a quick question; I'm out of warranty and I'm FBO+JB4, should I even bother taking anything off when take it in to get done?

If your out of warranty it doesn't matter. Mine goes in next Monday and I might even leave the cobb plugged in.

Yea don't worry about the flash. I mean, I'm Dinan, not sure it matters, but I had it done at a non- Dinan dealer and they not only did the VANOS swap, they also replaced a broken injector (that may or may not have been broken at the time of drop off), and also replaced my oil cap for a seeping oil issue (god knows how that happened, oil caps just don't go bad...)
