Tint Simulation - 100% 85% 70% 50% 35% 20% 15% Which looks best?

My Montego Blue E92 does not yet have tint added to the glass. Here is a photo that has a tint simulation for 100% (no tint), 85%, 70%, 50%, 35%, 35-20-20% (Idaho legal limit), 20%, and 15% light transmittance. What looks best?

You could support your opinion by posting pictures of your bimmer with tinted glass. Provide pertinent data (percent tint, kind of tint, etc.).

35% would be my first choice.

if the police aren't picky where you live, i'd even go with 20% all around.

35% from your choices, although I'd probably go with 30% for mine.

By the way, thanks for this thread. I've been wondering which percentage to go with!

Actually thats not accurate. The 35% looks like the 20% and so forth. The factory tint on the E92's is darker than most. So you need to switch your %'s around cause with 20% you wouldn't be able to see in the car.

I was thinking I liked the looks of 35% in the simulation, but if it would look more like the 20% picture, then maybe I should be going with 50%.

Could somebody post a picture of an E90/E92 with 50% tint?

My wife likes 70% or 85%. It looks to me that 85% isn't worth the effort. The 70% is an improvement over doing nothing. Maybe 50% is my best middle ground.

What would be really good to see is some before and after pictures. Anybody??

I think your tints are a little off my E46 has 20% all around and my E90 has 40% on the front doors and back window and 30% on the rear doors.

Somwhere betw. 35-50%, depeding on how off your tint is.
Montego is a classy color, you don't want to KGB it.

35 is perfect. It is what I had on my E90. Plenty dark enough, but not too dark... Anything above 40% just doesnt make any sense to me...

I updated the original attached image to add the appropriate tint to the right front window. In the original image, that was not done and may have been why the tints looked lighter than they should.

My method in Photoshop was to create layers for the glass. I used black (0-0-0) for the color of the glass. To simulate different degrees of tint, I selected opacity for the black windows at 85% to represent 15% tint, 65% opacity to represent 35% tint, 50% opacity to represent 50% tint, etc. This should be a good representation of the effect of tint. The right front window was set for it's corresponding tint. The cumulative effect is less than assuming that 50% tint and 50% tint would be 0% tint. This would be far from reality. I think that the equivalent would really be 25% tint and should appear that way in this reworked image.

The interior of my Montego Blue E92 is cream beige which also contributes to the light appearance. This is partially why I want tint.

Is this closer to what it would look like in person?
