E90 exhaust extremely noisy in rainy conditions

Hey guys, I'm hoping some of you may help shed some light with an issue I'm having lately.

My 2006 325i sedan is fully stock. Whenever there is moderate-heavy rain, my exhaust tone becomes unbearably loud almost immediately. It sounds very raspy as well, kind of like that "fart-cannon on a civic" sound. Why would this be happening?

Any advice appreciated

That's odd. Have you had the exhaust system checked for leaks or anything of the sort? One thing that comes to mind of course is the exhaust flap, these can become sticky and by themselves can rattle, but somehow it's as if it is not closing when you are in rainy conditions. But it depends on exactly what the exhaust system sounds like. You can of course test this by unplugging the exhaust flap regulator (will store an error code though but nothing serious), but I would start by having the exhaust system inspected.

Hopefully more will post with other helpful advice!

You have a exhaust leak, have it checked out.

My Evo did the same thing in the rain, it was rattling against something right underneath my seat, literally anytime it was raining or wet outside. It was raspy and obnoxious.

Its gotten louder and now seems like it's coming from the engine bay. Also, CEL came on. I guess I gotta bring it in.

I'm not too sure but I believe the 325 does not have this flap you mention of.

You are probably right, after posting I thought I may have misspoken after seeing that it was a 325i...

Thanks to all who helped out. It was a broken/rusty bolt between two pieces of pipe, leaving the gasket basically flapping in the wind. Only cost 50$ to fix.
