The 2014 Mazda3 hatch is pretty too; can't wait to see what they do with the MS3.
I wouldn't recommend the Corolla to my worst enemy. As I tell all my friends: You hate life? Get a Corolla.

Agree with the Mazda3 though. That and the Mazda6 are one of the best Japanese cars out there right now.

Not a Japanese car hater at all. Used to own two Accords and they both served me well. Just hate seeing how some of the beloved brands (Acura, Infiniti, etc.) are lagging behind the competition these days. Props to Toyota & Subaru though for the FR-S/BRZ and reviving the J-RWD market.

The new Q50 is a joke. The steer-by-wire system? I didn't have the heart to tell my neighbor he made a big mistake after taking it for a spin.

Please Infinti, don't screw up the successor to the G37. I might still have money to give to you.

As they say, "happy wife, happy life." If you're going to be married, you need to take into account your partner's likes, dislikes, values, priorities, lifestyle choices, etc. It's one big compromise... but if you marry the right person, it's plain old easy. Too many people just marry the wrong person, honestly. They marry for looks, career, convenience, sexual spark, etc. But in reality, I think the first priority needs to be friendship. If you marry someone who's your "best friend," you'll have a lot less problems with conflicts of values, priorities, or interests down the road.

That said, you may obviously still run into problems. If your wife feels you're spending too much MONEY on a hobby, too much TIME on a hobby, or that you love the hobby more than them, that's where the problems start IMHO. If she's showing disdain for your car, my guess is something is the underlying problem (not the car itself) - either the amount of money you're spending on it, time, perceived "importance," or maybe a combination thereof. I'd get to the root of the problem to correct it.

At the end of the day, if you get to the root, let's say money, and you just don't see eye to eye, you'll need to compromise. My personal sentiment is that nothing is as important as your family at the end of the day. While BMWs are great, they're just machines - they can't replace family. When you're married to the right person, a lot of stuff just flows and works - you tend to have similar values (not necessarily interests), and that helps make some of this stuff easy. But when you come to an crossroad, you need to meet in the middle. Even though I suspect many of the comments here are more light-hearted, and all wives joke about their husbands and vice versa, if you sense that it's no longer joking, or it's becoming really constant, then I wouldn't wait to address it unless you're looking for a divorce.
Wise words, and well said!

Didn't say I'd recommend it. Corollas (and most Toyotas) are soul sucking. I just said it looks nice and sporty for what it is. I'd take a BRZ over an FR-S, though (and almost did, but then I remembered that I have an e30).

Edit: I can't believe the Mazda3 2.5L only comes with auto

My wife absolutely loves my e92 and encourages me to buy parts for it or buys them herself as gifts. I wish the same could be said for my rx-7, she hates that car with a passion and refuses to ride in it haha.

A Z4, X3, X5, or X6, will solve this problem. Never met a woman who doesn't like a roadster or an SUV. Put a Roundel on it and it might as well be a LV purse on wheels.

Wife is a car girl. Wants a classic 'Stang or something else.
Her wagon rolls on 20's with tinted windows.

She doesn't care what mods I do.

Don't know why anyone would marry someone who gives them a hard time for their hobbies. Granted, you shouldn't be blowing the mortgage money on car stuff. Personal experience is that most women dont give a sh*t about what car you drive or know anything about the hobby, the exceptions are keepers!

If it's not cars, it's your golf clubs, in my experience.

Answer is marry a woman who likes cars and golf ... or don't get obsessed with either one ... meaning don't spend too much on mods or new drivers, wedges, or putters.

Or gosh, the worse, get her permission. Or set a budget with your "fun" money and her "fun" money and stay within it, or get special super-duper permission.

Or forget the "marrying" part.

Tough lifestyle choices...

Right now, I'm in the unmarried middle-aged phase and not in a hurry to go elsewhere... I mean, how can I? I spent $400 on cool cocomats -black w/ gray dots and a trunk liner that's black w/red dots (exterior paint is red). They really dress up the inside so I don't want chrome pedals. Could I have done that when married? No ... it would have been the $125 OEM boring mats.... lol. And then there's the $215 UUC Shift Knob and E Brake Handle... married? No way. And then there is the Stage 1 BavSound Speakers I just installed. She would thank me for that one because the next woman will appreciate music, even the non-Christian kind ... another story.

But then, that's probably the extent of my mods until the warranty is out.... spending $2k for 15-20 more horses for intake, performance exhaust, more throttle response with a tune ... even I'm not that insane .... yet.
