Front brake pads/ceramic brake pads
What are your thoughts on fitting front brake pads that don't have retaining clips fitted to the outer pads?
Reason being the Brembo pads that I've bought to replace the ceramics I currently have only have the retaining clips on the piston side pad, the outers just sit in the caliper. I know that they hook onto the caliper carrier & there is the outer retaining clip but what's to stop the pad just rubbing against the disc & or rattling around inside the caliper, or am I just over thinking things? I have called the supplier & am assured that they will be fine but I don't want to fit them only to have the faf of having to swap them out again if they don't work correctly.

I recently fitted genuine BMW pads heavily discounted from a franchised stealer and they don't have clips on the outer pad either.
It seems BMW have realised that if they buy 1000 pads without clips they save one Euro! Fitted them anyway and they are every bit as good as the ones I took out which did have clips. No discernible difference whatsoever! |

Fitted the new Brembo pads & Ate discs this evening after having the carrier re-threaded today.
The lack of retaining clips on the outer pads doesn't seem to have had any detrimental effects, so thanks therealdb1 & rassa until I read your replies I was going to take the Brembos back & buy a set of pads with the outer clips

Having fitted new Ate front discs the ceramic pads were in need of replacing so I thought I’d not go ceramic this time & fitted Brembo pads.
The red stuffs had covered 18,268 miles as had the Pagid discs and now having replaced the discs the brake judder that I had been getting has now gone away. So I thought I’d have a proper look at the old discs, I new that the the pads were pretty worn, although I didn’t have a break wear light. I thought I’d post up some pics of the discs as it seems like they haven’t liked the ceramic pads, they feel very ruff to the touch, the inner discs more so but that’s most likely due to that one having the piston pushing the pad against it, the inner pad had worn about twice as much as the outer.
