BMW 330d M57 engine limp mode symptons

Just wondering if someone has had this before

Car drives well no dash lights showing but sometimes is like not turbo not boosting and
cant find any faults apart from this one but clears for a while 3F53 vehicle speed signal

but also cruise control indicates to be working on the dash but is not working

regards

I did but nothing seemed to look obvious apart from dpf pressures higher than I think they should be but probably down to an ageing dpf so thought I'd ask incase of something common

could be anything, but how many miles has your turbo done - any indications of wear?

Do a check on the DSC unit using INPA. 3rd party scantools arent usualy the best. albeit expensive. Youd be much better of getting a 10 dollar Kcan cable and inpa for free.

Failing vehicle speed signal is the combined signal of the 4 individual speed sensors. So either a short in a line connecting the DSC unit or a component inside the DSC unit is failing.

Hi Dude,

I had similar problem with my m57 330d. From memory it feels like car is in limp with no abs working for me. I solved it by replacing the speed sensor from Febi (Next time I will go oem from time to time it comes back as error but no problems). Hope it helps and good luck.

Regards,
Alex

What type of driveshafts do you have? With external reluctor ring or on bearing reluctor?

To Styvy
Replacement of abs sensor when old one is damaged from contact with driveshaft reluctor ring doesn't solve the root cause of the problem. Which is the distorted reluctor ring.

this is correct,,and can be gotten around with the rubber washers under sensor and sensor bolts,,around 1.5 mm from memory

I honestly do not remember I sold the m57 in favor of n57 . I remember buying the sensor and replacing it.

I've had something similar (albeit without the ABS error) and it turned out to be a bad/faulty MAF sensor.

Easy way to check it to pull the cable connected to the MAF and take the car for a drive. If it fixed the problem then time to order a new MAF...
