What did the EGR recall do?

My miles were too high (wth, BMW????) so they never offered me a free fix.

Now I have 2 EGR codes, 4b82 and 4862, and a shudder in idle. SES on startup, but doesnt return until restart if cleared. Had limp mode and a bunch of MAF codes earlier - those went away after putting in a new MAF

What stuff WOULD the EGR recall have replaced if it didnt disqualify me (165k mi) and would doing the same myself be likely to address these faults??? Thx

The only EGR recall that I remember was way back in 2011: they replaced some lots. Info about it is in the Sticky at the top (really, you should have read it first.) http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=800030

WARRANTY INFORMATION
The repair described in this bulletin is covered under warranty regardless of time or mileage. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...45284-4261.pdf

EGR service bulletin was mostly for preventing CBU. Do you have the old style or new style EGR? If you have old style EGR, and ever need to replace it, you will need new software to support the new hardware.

If you have new style EGR valve, and you car has received any dealer software updates since 2012, then you already have everything EGR related.

A better answer than mine - looks like the "recall" is an update designed to catch people that didn't have the original done.

You should add a note to the sticky!

I have no idea what its gotten, I'm allergic to $300 oil changes.

Only ever been to a stealership when I blew an EGR cooler hose out of county, bastards attempted to charge me $470 to install 2 hoses (when only one was done --- and could be replaced without tools just by popping the hood and reaching down at an akward angle).... told them to go eat a dick, bought the hose for $20 instead from their apolpgetic parts guy, and changed it out on the curb next to the dealership.

Havent been back since.

I meant the greedy not-technically-a-recall TSB + emissions warranty extension crap....which if I may say so is an extremely cheapass way of enactung a recall while avoiding calling it a recall.

They even sent me a letter to come in, too bad my mileage was far past the cutoff already.

Did you read what I posted above? There is no limit on mileage or time. To check old vs new style, pull off the intake hose and look at the inside of the EGR valve.

Ah that...

Damn, why is it I always seem to have to revisit areas that I just worked on a couple weeks later...

Hi folks!

I've got an issue with my EGR since a year and the resolution haven't found yet. I'm curies about your opinion what would that be!
I've got EGR related fault codes in the ECU, and therefore my mechanic ordered a new EGR valve (year ago) which was replaced along with one pressure sensor. MAF readings checked and thats ok. Wires seems ok.

The porblem remained: after the adaptation the car is ok for 1-2 weeks, mostly after long jorneys it starts stall (mostly when the engine is cold) and EGR fault codes come up... adapt again (he use some sort of bosch device for that) the car is ok again for some time but after a while the issue repeated... its very annoying and i dont want to buy a new ECU for several thousends.... if its not necessary

The car has a modified sw due to DPF removal, however the problem was existed before the removal either... so i dont thinks thats the problem...

Please could you share your thoughts?

Thanks
