I also love the Jekyll and Hyde characteristics of the engine. Drive it below 6.5K rpm and its just plain ordinary, but once you take it past the 6.5k mark - it turns into an absolute animal. My mate had the last model Civic Type R with an induction kit, and boy did it sound good in the 6.5 - 8k rpm range. Grins all round.

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/auc/car_d...VB320X0AV67743 £ 34,990 for a manual 330i sport on an 07 plate with just over 6000 miles Options are Xenons, CD changer, Walnut Trim, folding mirrors, heated seats, Hi Fi, Leather and Pro Nav Same car and spec ... brand new ... on Drive the Deal ... £ 31,065 So the new one is nearly £4k cheaper than the nearly new one. Now ... I know that anyone buying used from the dealer will also be looking for a discount, but ... they would have to do very well to get £4K off a car that 'owes' the dealer something and isn't just new business ... If you sell to the dealer then you will get 'trade in value' if you sell privately then people will probably expect you to undercut the dealer, maybe by a grand or so. It's daft, but it's actually possible that you could sell used for more than you paid new. More likely you'll take a small loss ... The what car depreciation index reckons a stock 330i msport will drop from £32K to £22K in the first year ... which is pretty staggering. But ... if you get £6k off in the first place then year one depreciation is more like £4K. |

Great post NFS. It just goes to show! The other reason that the dealer prices it so high is that he will get an interested punter who looks at the car then sits down with the business manager to get some finance figures and then miraculously a brand new car comes out cheaper on finance! This will be due to higher residuals on brand new and a deposit contribution by BMW finance. A new registration as opposed to an AUC means more to the dealer with respect to volume bonuses etc.
I do not even wish to think about depreciation on my new 335d, it will cause me to go into manic depression. I need to condition myself to see the 3 year finance contract through to completion, then hand her back ! |

Thanks NFS. Hmmm...so maybe I can afford to sell the car and invest the money (under the floorboards until the stock market settles down a bit!)

I paid 31k for an ex demonstrator and have put 10k on it in 6 months, hence the 4k loss. I would never buy a new car. The minute it comes out of the dealership, its lost £1500. |

Ah gotcha.
I always thought that re: new cars., this was my first but I do like that brand new untouched aspect and also knowing it hasn't been ragged. I've had probs with all my ex-demos but this car has been good as gold. Look at what mikem has been doing in his car, I don't. Want to be buying that next!

I understand the reasons for buying new, but being an inherently tight bastard, i won't I also get a better general service regarding warranty claims, down to dealer relationship, so never worry. My replacment next year has been ordered.....as the first used one in the country. |

Problem is that BMW dealers are offering 'nearly new' at grossly inflated prices and at the moment brokers are getting 15% discounts on new e90's. I tried to buy a 'nearly new' 330i msport which was on for £32K. The dealer absolutely refused to negotiate .. It was bizzare. In the end my new car was cheaper. |
