Halle-lujia (or however its spelt !!)

Thank fuck for that, as most of you know I`ve had a few problems (well one recurring one) that nobody seemed to be able to solve. A vibration that felt like a rubbing between 20-25 mph. The cars been off the road for 2 weeks, they`ve changed the wheel bearings, the diff, front discsand a rear wheel all to no avail checked the car thoroughly for any signs of accident damage and KDS is fine.

This afternoon I got a call to say that they tried a different set of wheels and tyres and the car was perfect, would I come and try it.

Went and drove it and yep as it should be, spun the old wheels up and no sign of any problems. So next step was to put my rears on the car and some 17" fronts (all they had) out in the car again, perfect. At last we`re getting somewhere, we know the problem is with the fronts but what is it ?

The wheels were perfect-straight as a dye but then a service advisor (not a technician) says check the wear on the tyres, looked fine at first, worn to about 4 mm and slightly worse on edges (but typical Conti wear) much scratching off head later revealed that when you run your hand around the circumferance of the inner tread blocks, you could feel it was like stepping stones, one block up, one block down, all the way around, sometimes one block up, two blocks down, just like steps all the way around. Nobody seems to know whats caused it, other than a fault in the rubber. Anyway a quick call to Stratstones Hull and they`ve agreed to cough up £500 for the two new front tyres and are being fitted tomorrow.

Fingers crossed but as happy as a pig in shit doesn`t even come close, celerbrated by caning the arse of the car all the way home, my god this thing is fast, I`ve been in a Saab 93 Aero the last two days so nice to have RWD again.

Congrats mike. Pleased for you. Does that mean you got somne new bits (disks, tyres etc) out of it?

In the end it sounds like you'll end up with a better car as it has been so thoroughly checked and had bits replaced that might not have been had it been problem free.

It still sounds like the AUC checks we're p*** poor - I'd be complaing to BMW about that.

Some runflats are known to have feathering/laminating issues.

Glad you have got it solved.

This is the thing its been to 3 different main dealers (4 if you count the one I bought it from) and all have said its mechanically in excellent condition. It took a service advisor who used to work at Land Rover to overhear the problem and say "that used to happen on Freelanders and it was always the front tyres"

I guess sometimes the simplest things are ovelooked, on the plus side, the cars had about 4K worth of work done on it (all be it unnecessarily) and will now have 4 x brand new tyres (the rears were replaced before I collected it.)
