Sorry to hear that Mike.
Good job that you've got the M in order just in time to take it for a bit of trip. I'll bet the wife is wondering how you managed to get Airtours to cancel just so you can have 2 trips in the M

Oh crap what a nightmare, hope you find a late booking to get some rays.
We've booked our first caribbean holiday to St Lucia in November - was hoping that the hurricane season would be finished by then but the way the weather is this year...who knows ?

Hurricane season in the Caribbean/Florida is June to November. That is why the best time to go there is late Autumn to Easter.

Yeah, I got the last 747 out of Miami Airport when Katrina was blowin around.
They chained the jets to the runway - our pilot was the only one willing to give it a go - they closed Miami immediately after we left. I took some pics of the horizontal rain on the way down from our offices in Boca to Miami - and some of Miami Airport too - but it was a crappy 1 Megapixel Cameraphone so they didn't turn out too great. Was a bumpy climb even in a 747-400... I did some digging on St Lucia before we booked in Jan - it seems that they seldom had Hurricanes after October - so we leave on the 30th November and come back in time for Christmas Turkey !

Good choice. I was in Martinique (with the 'company') last June, mrs G flew out to join me. The Weather had just 'turned', mostly overcast with the odd sunny day but apparantly according to the locals the weather turns like clockwork every year at the same time.

Don`t think there`ll be much left of Cancun on Wed at this rate.
We`ve been to the caribbean 4 times and only one of those trips was outside of the hurricane period and never had any trouble, appart from some heavy thunderstorms at night in Cuba. I guess we`ve been lucky on the whole. Anyway, 1st stop tomorrow Portstewart then on to Donegal. Wonder how the car`s going to cope with all them country roads I predict an avg. mpg way, way below 20. |

I always 'go it alone', most of our holidays being in the US. I hate the travel agent thing, I know I can save myself £1000's by booking direct with airlines (don't do charter) and calling hotels direct and blagging discounts. It is also cheaper to book rental cars over the t'internet. Having said that I have occasionally used Expedia because they sometimes offer decent discounts for hotel/flight combo's.
My experience of package holidays is being treated like a f****g idiot by ignorant spotty 20 year old reps, travelling on shitty charter airlines where you have to pay for everything and people clap when the thing lands! I hate it, I hate it........ sorry ! |

Haven't uses a travel agents for years now, tend to stick with expedia/last minute/ebookers etc.
Just wondered if there was a place that specialised in All Inclusive hols to more far flung places.

LOL - Yeah we tend to avoid the travel agent and book individually in villas etc - grab a hire car and do it over the internet.
However for St Lucia we did book a package with Virgin - as I had some points to use up (upgraded to premium economy on the flights etc)
