Finally, my turbos arrived.. but,

Just received my turbos from a company I will not mention. I noticed they have a couple issues with the compressor wheel(s). I'm wondering if these could effect the balance or integrity? When you receive something you pay $3k+USD for, I figured the blades would at least be perfect.

The marks are fairly small, but I still wonder.. if at 160k+RPM there could be issues. One is a pencil grinder mark - as a welder/fabricator - looks like the work of an amateur. The other is this odd pinhole that was ground down very well, but now there's a thin spot on the blade.. I also had to wait almost 3 months to receive these and I'm kind of at a " point.

Maybe I'm overreacting.. but I have never seen any new compressor wheels with imperfections like this. I haven't seen a million turbos up close, but more than a handful.

I will post pictures when I get back home. I'm at work on a 10 hr shift and this is chewing my brain.

I wouldn't freak out just yet, they do frequently grind the comp and turbine wheels to balance the core assembly.

I'm just here to know what company it is. Seeing your location intrigues me.

This is why OP should just say the company/brand because we're just going to speculate here and might be wrong

Yeah it is.. That being said their 1 year warranty will cover most issues (including mine which had faulty wastegates out of the box), but I did have to pay for labor twice which sucked. Shoulda went with RB

3k+ for twins in 2022? You can buy a single for a touch more...

Looking forward to the pictures and what vendor this is.

Been busy between work and my side jobs, or I would have posted up already. I don't want to mention any company because I'm not trying to put anyone on blast, sensationalize or overhype this.

I heard back from them in regards to the pictures I am about to share. I was told this is balancing, other turbos mfgs do this, in 2.5 drawn out emails.... there's two pictures, one is a ding.

Videos I have seen, balancing is done by removing material off the backside of the compressor wheel, or the nut. There was a grinder mark skipping across the compressor as well but I couldn't get my camera to focus on it, nor would it have effected operation. I couldn't get a clear shot of the pinhole & where it was ground, but it's probably the least questionable of all things.

Not trying to overreact here, just figuring out if I was fed complete BS or what, I did spend a decent amount of money on these ..

My power goals don't align with a single. Single kits all came aiming for higher power levels than I would like for daily driving during the summer(have you seen gas prices, btw). I got a couple other things with the turbos, inside that $3.3k price, per turbo cost is easily over $1.4k each. I'm also trying to hold off on doing fueling upgrades, trying to put it off till I come around to doing WMI. Do it all at once, probably add port injection at that time. Anyways, I'm day dreaming again.

Singles actually get better MPGs

STs start at 3k and you can get one that would match a twins power output if you wanted:

https://speedtech.com/collections/n5...unt-borgwarner

https://speedtech.com/collections/n5...unt-borgwarner

But if you want twins nothing wrong with them. Once you add in the cost of downpipes, inlets, and outlets you are basically at the cost of a precision ST kit, assuming that is your thing, which it obviously is not.

Big sad, wish I came across those kits. The big thing that threw me off singles was all the other supporting stuff I would have to change, the only kit that stood out and had any rep was the doc race kit and I wasn't spending that kind of money or aiming for 600+ hp. Dang, would have definitely picked those up, rather get a Borg Warner or Precision than deal with this again.

Now that I see the pics, I wouldn't be too concerned about the first one, but that second one isn't awesome.

I'd send an email to the vendor with those photos.

Cheers, appreciate the feedback. I can accept that these are subpar. I have messaged the vendor, I was just absolutely upset at the excuse I was given. I know full well if I lived 1 hr from the state that built this, they wouldn't be sending me this. Its because I am so far that they knew they wouldn't have to deal with this pathetic piece of metal again.

If you're in the market for new turbos, I would avoid the bullsh!t and stick with the precision/borg warner/garrett or any of the big boys. My 2c.

So what is the brand/vendor? I'm in Canada to don't want to end up in the same situation and single turbo is not going to happen to my car. If I upgrade I'm staying twins.

Any chance you can return them or get a refund from your CC or hopefully you bought through paypal and they will battle for you?

You should be happy with your purchase or the onus should be on the manufacture to rectify.

Pure it is then but at this point hearing things from everyone on pretty much all brands feel like I'm just going to stay with stockers and be content with Stage2+ Or well single turbo like you say but yeah that's to much for me. I want to keep the car stock ish.

I didn't explicitly ask about a return ‐ and Im not sure if I want to return. Would i be charged duties to return an item? I would probably go with one of the kits linked above if i could. Just worried about everything i would have to change/reroute.

I spent a very long time researching, reading peoples' reviews/experiences. RB seemed like the best option. I was sadly mistaken. What a sore mistake, going to feel this one for a long time. Do yourself a favour and go with one of the big boys, save yourself the regret I am experiencing.

To top it all off I just pulled my car from winter storage(outside) and some mice destroyed my ignition wiring... it just doesnt end for me

Are these the GF's then?

Also not understanding why the first thing you did wasn't to ask for a replacement, so what you're out some shipping costs IF that be the case.. better than totally unhappy and out all costs
